MILSTEAD, WAITS posted by David C. Rains on Wednesday, March 24, 1999

WAITS / MILSTEAD - Looking for information on the family of Virginia WAITS. She appears in the 1900 Grant Parish census as a widow, living with her two daughters She again appears in Grant Parish conveyance records in 1909 as a resident of Dry Prong selling some property to a James Frazer. Her co-seller is James MILSTEAD, Jr. They claim to be the only living heirs of John Step MILSTEAD and that they inherited the land they are selling from John. My great great grandfather was John MILSTEAD of Grant Parish. and he had a daughter named Virginia. His youngest son was James. However, the 1850 and 1860 census records indicate that Virginia was born in 1843. The 1900 census indicates that Virginia WAITS was born in 1839. Also, James and Virginia were not the only living heirs to John, though the land may have been willed specifically to them. I don't know of any other MILSTEAD s living in Grant Parish during this time period except the descendants of John and Emily MILSTEAD.
