He enlisted in the Navy and completed Nuclear Power School before selected to attend the United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation in 2006, Nicholas received a commission to the Marine Corps. He served with 2/8 in Camp Lejeune as an infantry officer and deployed both to Ramadi, Iraq and to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Most recently, he completed the Martial Arts Instructor Trainer Course in Quantico, Va. Nicholas lived according to his priorities: God, family and country. He exemplified Christ in his words and deeds while humbly striving to allow God to mold him into a better servant, husband, and father. God's unconditional love for him was the foundation and example that Nicholas applied to his relationship with his family. He truly loved and honored his parents and was thankful for their wisdom and the examples they set living in faith. He called his wife "My Lady" and kept up the gentlemanly habit of opening doors. He aspired to one day be a butcher at his family's meat market where he could raise his children to appreciate the blessings of family and the importance of the legacy they've left behind. To him "snow" was synonymous with "stupid," internet battles were won with carefully crafted haikus, and heroes played guitars with buttons instead of strings. Nicholas Bourgeois was a worship leader, a would-be-private, a master of the hand stand, and "That Guy" who would always stand up and recklessly say what everyone else was thinking. Nicholas leaves behind two beautiful boys and a wife who will forever consider him the greatest blessing she was ever given. Louis was born Monday, Feb. 17, 1919 in Pittsburg, Texas, to Louis Casvil and Lily Clark Coffman. He attended school in Oil City. After finishing school he went to work for the U.S. Geological Society and worked as a surveyor in Louisiana and Panama. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 769th Military Police Battalion. He fought in the Battle of Normandy in northern France during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning home from his military service, he moved to Houma, where he met and married Ruth Lenora Rembert. They made their home in Houma and Louis went to work for the Texas Oil Company (Texaco) as a drilling foreman. He retired after 30 years with Texaco. His wife Ruth died in 2001. In 2006, Louis moved to Harrison to be closer to his son. Mr. Coffman was truly an exceptional man. He was loving, kind, gentle and extremely generous. His well-mannered behavior earned him the nickname, "Mr. Clean" by the rough-necks in the Oil industry. His well-mannered behavior lent well to his interest in fishing, hunting, traveling and attending theoretical productions in Branson, Mo. He was of strong faith and very patriotic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Houma, a 32nd Degree Mason, Disabled American Veterans and V.F.W. of Houma. He treasured God, family and children. Earning a Baccalaureate Degree in 1943, she was involved in education at all levels teaching in various Catholic schools in Louisiana including in New Orleans, Eunice, Ville Platte, Franklin, Morgan City, Lake Charles, Opelousas, and Houma. Sister also held a master's degree in Home Economics from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas and was certified in History, English and French. Following these teaching experiences in various geographic locations, she ministered in the Diocese of Lafayette at St. Mary's Learning Center and at the Diocesan Chancery working as Assistant Archivist and Clerk in the Marriage Tribunal. Sr. Vivian just recently celebrated 75 years of religious life and throughout these years she shared a spirit of living life to the fullest! In whatever position she found herself, she served as mentor and teacher instructing others in the art of celebrating life whether the task was researching and writing, sewing and cooking, studying history and learning French. Her love and appreciation for others was colorfully woven through each experience and was distinctly evident in the tapestry of lives she touched. She was a native of Puerto Rico and a longtime resident of Houma and recently moved to Mandeville.
