Funeral services were held Aug. 11 at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Rick Stevens and the Rev. Steven Sholar officiating. Burial with military honors was held in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Sholar Blanchard; one son, Jonathan Mark Bonner Blanchard of Chicago; one sister, Rena Blanchard Domangue of Houma; and three grandchildren. He was born April 28, 1922, the son of the late Elgin Joseph and Nora Blanchard. He was a retired Army chief warrant officer. He entered military service in 1939 and retired in 1972 after having served 31 years. He was a member of the 31st Infantry Division of Louisiana, which was one of the first divisions to deploy to Europe and remained there for the duration of World War II. He then served in the 325th Glider Infantry and had also served with the 23rd Division, 1st Cavalry Division and the 82nd and 11th Airborne Divisions. He served two tours of duty in Korea, receiving the United Nations Korean Medal and two tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of the Bronze Starl, which was awarded to him by the Marines for service with them at the Battle of Quang Tri in Vietnam. He was a master parachutist, a master of explosive ordinance disposal, a deep-sea diver and was a nuclear weapons officer. A Mason, he was also a member of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Radio Relay League as a HAM radio operator. He worked as an Instrument and Electrical Technician at Monsanto Corporation, where he made many wonderful friends. The love and compassion of his family and friends made dealing with his illness manageable. Knowing the toll that his cancer would take on his beloved wife, Regina, and his family, much of his time since his diagnosis was spent enjoying their company. Her nursing career spanned 24 years from Thibodaux Hospital and Terrebonne Hospital working in Labor and Delivery, the Lafourche Parish Health Unit, St. Charles Parish Hospital and Women's Hospital in Baton Rouge in the Assessment Center. Terry loved going to the beach, as first observed in a photo with her mom and dad when she was only a year old. She continued that love affair throughout her life, celebrating 52 consecutive years of white sand, blue water and lovely sunsets at Grayton Beach, Fla., this summer. As a passionate alumna, she was an avid fan of all LSU sports. Terry's love of music led her to her first Jazz Fest in 1976. She never missed a Jazz Fest and even worked as a volunteer for 7 years. Terry got much joy out of volunteering and serving others. She will advance the training of medical students by donating her body to the Willed Body Program at Tulane University School of Medicine. She was devoted to her loving God and the Blessed Mother through her recitation of the Holy Rosary and her Novenas and was a long time parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Venice. Affectionately known as "Maw-Maw," "Evie-Devie," and "Ms. Eve," she enjoyed playing tennis, late night card games, board games, trips to the casino, the Saints and the Atlanta Braves and traveling with family members and friends.
