KING, EARL, SR.

Earl Paul King Sr., 91, a native and resident of Houma, died at 10
a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at
Chauvin Funeral Home. Visitation will also be from 8 a.m. until
funeral time Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at
10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial in Garden of
Memories Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Martin King of
Houma; sons, Earl King Jr. and wife, Linda, of Morgan City, and Joel
King and wife, Heidi, of Thibodaux; three stepdaughters, Charlotte
Clampitt and husband, Glyn, of Niceville, Fla., Janet Moore and
husband, Speedy Moore, of Baton Rouge, and Peggy Guidry and husband,
Duane, of Houma; grandchildren, Earl P. King III, Sharla Gallagher,
Darla White, William King, Joel King Jr. and Angela Fremin; five step-
grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; brother,
Gordon King of Lafayette; and sister, Mattie Smith of Houma. He was
preceded in death by his parents, William Hoffman and Nettie King; and
numerous brothers and sisters. He was a member of St. Matthews
Episcopal Church and was the co-owner of King Trucking in addition to
other businesses. He served a term on the State Mineral Board and was
a decorated U.S. Army veteran in World War II in the European Theater.

KING, NELWYN (GIROIR)

Nelwyn Giroir King, 62, a resident of Thibodaux and native of
Paincourtville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. Visitation will be
from 8:30 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Landry's Funeral Home in
Napoleonville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the
funeral home, with burial in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Paincourtville.
She is survived by her husband, George King Sr.; mother, Vivian
Cedotal Giroir; sons, George King Jr. and wife, Patti, Morgan John
King, and Billie King and wife, Nicole; daughters, Lena King Bourgeois
and Gretta King Bourgeois and husband, Kenny; sisters, Jan LeBlanc,
Donna Rivere, Vicky Sanchez and Hartense Rivere; 12 grandchildren; and
five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father,
Murphy Giroir. She loved spending time with her family and friends,
especially all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also
loved to watch the Saints and listen to Bobby Richard on Saturday
morning radio. The family would like to thank all who cared for her

LAGARDE, GLORIA

Gloria Deen Lagarde, 74, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, surrounded by
family. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at
Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday
at the church, with Pastor Lionel J. Griffin officiating. Gloria
leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Clarence Lagarde;
two sons, Malcom Lagarde and Wendell Lagarde and wife, Jackie; two
daughters, Dontrell Lagarde and Valencia Raymond and husband, Alex;
grandchildren, Terrell Lagarde, Jade Calais and husband, Ricky,
Brandon Lagarde, Janet Lagarde, Shannon Lagarde, Ryan Lagarde, Royce
Lagarde, Creighton Lagarde, and Chantel Lagarde; three great-
grandchildren; three sisters, Debbie Joyce and husband, Robert,
Beverly Pellum and husband, James, and Brenda Raven; brother, Herman
Joseph Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her mother, Annie Mae Joseph; father, Herman Joseph; and maternal
and paternal grandparents. Gloria Lagarde was born and raised in
Thibodaux. Early on in life, Gloria developed a love of reading,
writing and speaking. This would serve as a precursor to her life's
path and purpose. She attended Nicholls State University, majoring in
English education and later received a master's degree in education
(curriculum and instruction) from Southern University. As an avenue to
share her passion for knowledge and learning, Gloria taught in the
Lafourche Parish School System for 33 years before retiring. Fellow
educators and former students knew her as a devoted professional who
served willingly and selflessly. With a pure motive, she carried that
positive attitude into the classroom daily. Following retirement,
Gloria cultivated her passion for writing. She completed a novel
entitled "Never Grow Old" in which she actively pursued publication
until her death. While enjoying a night on the town with friends in
1958, Gloria met and fell in love with Clarence Lagarde. The two wed
on April 26, 1959, and would prove to be an anomaly, as their pairing
in holy matrimony lasted almost 54 years. Throughout her life, she
found peace in cooking, surfing the internet, studying God's word, and
spending time with family and friends. Gloria was more zealous than
she would admit, stronger than she appeared, and more influential than
anyone realized. Her legacy surpasses even the worth of a carat of

LABAT, KATHERINE (HEBERT)

Katherine Hebert Labat, 92, a native of Assumption Parish and resident
of Raceland, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013. Funeral services will be
held at a later date. She is survived by her husband, Guy Labat;
children, William P. Hebert Jr. and wife, Kathy, Arlene F. Hebert and
companion, Ralph Buchanan, and Kay Zeringue; two stepdaughters, Ruth
Babin and husband, Wayne, and Andrea Toups and husband, Andrew; four
grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and one great-grandchild. She was
preceded in death by her first husband, William P. Hebert Sr.; son,
Leon B. Hebert; parents, Benjamin and Maggie Champagne Hebert; sister,

LANDRY, FLORENCE (TABOR)

Florence Tabor Landry, born June 17, 1928, passed away Thursday,
February 21, 2013. She was a native and life-long resident of Choctaw.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at St.
James Chapel in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11
a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in St. James Chapel cemetery
in Thibodaux. She is survived by her children, Geraldine L. LaGraize,
Malcolm J. Landry, Lois Ann L. Dugas, Charles Ray Landry, Melinda L.
Waguespack, and Melissa L. Rose; siblings Eunice T. Percle, Thelma T.
Percle, and Terry T. Becnel; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jaedee J.
Landry; mother, Verna O. Tabor; father, Elphege Tabor; brothers,
Jessie J. Tabor and John J. Tabor; and one grandchild, Mickey Landry.
She loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them. She served her
community for many years as a substitute teacher, religion teacher,
and custodial keeper with her husband for St. James Chapel. She
enjoyed her casino trips and being with friends at the Senior Center.

Jeanne Boutte Landry, 83, a native of St. Martin Parish and resident
of Houma, died at 2:05 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. Funeral services
will be private. She is survived by her husband, Octave John Landry;
daughter, Arleen M. Simmons and husband, Leroy; sons, Johnny A. Landry
and wife Lynn, Octave Landry and wife, Christine, Perry L. Landry,
Joey P. Landry, and Warren J. Landry; brother, Marcel Boutte and wife,
Sheila; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her parents, Joseph A. Boutte and Pauline Bonin Boutte;

Lou Verne Landry, a long time resident of Houma went to be with the
Lord Our Savior Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.
until funeral time Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houma. A
memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with burial in Holy
Rosary Catholic Church cemetery in Houma. She is survived by her
children, Edmund Carl Landry Jr. and wife, Kit, Martha Jeannette
Cazaubon and husband, Gene, John Richard Landry and wife, Karen, and
Michael Thomas Landry and wife, Heidi; 14 grandchildren; nine great
grandchildren; one brother, Bill and wife, Willetta Price; and a
sister-in-law, Mildred Price. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Edmund Carl Landry, DDS; her parents, Madonna Naomi and
Thomas Radford Price; three brothers, Leonard, O.A. , and Richard
Price; and three sisters, Faye Price Allen, Evelyn Barnhill, and Ivy
Jo Price. She loved oil painting, ceramics, sewing and genealogy. She
was a published author as well. She worked for many years as a dental
hygienist with her husband, Carl, and performed volunteer services at
Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic School. In lieu of flowers,

LANDRY, SAUL, JR.

Saul Francis Landry Jr., 84, a native and resident of Houma, died at
6:18 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013. Visitation will be from 7 to 9
p.m. Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 8:30 a.m. until funeral
time Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian
burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in
Magnolia Cemetery. He is survived by his sons, Saul F. Landry III of
Houma, and Edward B. Landry and wife, Lynne, of Baton Rouge;
daughters, Margaret L. Olson and husband, Casey, of Santa Monica,
Calif., Emelie L. Patterson and husband, Jon, of Houma, Suzanne L.
Holzman of San Francisco, Calif., and Michelle L. Ash and husband,
Trevor, of Houma; sister, Joan Landry Lennox of New Orleans; nine
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by his wife, Mary Gail Tabor Landry; parents, Saul Francis Landry Sr.
and Edna Amann Landry; and sister, Margaret Landry Chassee. Saul
Francis Landry Jr. graduated from Tulane Medical School in June 1950,
at the age of 21 and practiced internal medicine for 36 years. In 1956
he joined his father in the practice of medicine, and joined the staff
of Terrebonne Parish General Hospital, which consisted of 20
physicians. A devoted and passionate physician, he regularly made
house calls throughout his career. He was chief of staff at Terrebonne
Parish General Hospital in 1970, Coroner of Terrebonne Parish for 22
years (1958-1980), member of Terrebonne Parish Medical Society,
Southern Medical Association, Louisiana Medical Society and the AMA.He
was a veteran of the Korean war. He served in Japan at the U.S. Navy
Hospital Yokuska, and with the Marines at Camp Fisher in Kyoto. He was
promoted to full Lieutenant and finished his service at the U.S. Naval
Hospital in San Diego. He was a member of the Serra Club, Lions Club,
Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Houma-Terrebonne Carnival Club
and Krewe of Christopher. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales
Cathedral. He served on the boards of St. Francis de Sales School and
Vandebilt Catholic High School. In recognition of his service to the
church, he was awarded The Order of St. Louis in 1977 by the
Archdiocese of New Orleans and he was honored by the Diocese of Houma-
Thibodaux in 1984 with the Bishop's Medal. He enjoyed fishing and was
a voracious reader. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
in his name to St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, Tulane University,
Tulane University School of Medicine or any charity. Chauvin Funeral

Emmett Francis Lapeyrouse, 58, a native and resident of Chauvin, died
Sunday, March 10, 2013. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral

Barbara Fonseca LaPorte, 76, a native and resident of Houma, died at

Marietta Angelic Gaudet Lasseigne, 91, a resident and native of

Jennie Ann Ledet, 67, a native and resident of Houma, died at 8:30

Kerragen Charles Ledet, 92, a native of Napoleonville, and resident of
Houma, died at his residence, Saturday, March 23, 2013. Visitation
will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at Our Lady of the Most
Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houma. A Mass of Christian burial will
be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in Our Lady of the
Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church cemetery in Houma. He is survived by
his devoted wife of 52 years, Betty Oubre Ledet of Houma; brother,
Charles Ledet and wife, Joan, of Houston, Texas; sister, Carol Gold
and husband, Ray, of Houma; brother-in-law, Howard "Buck" Oubre; and
many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Leonce and Marie Goetz Ledet; brothers, L.H., Loyal and Gordon Ledet;
and sisters, Mary E. Patterson, Beverly Curey and Evelyn Belanger.
Kerragen was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary
Catholic Church. He was also an extraordinary Eucharistic minister and
member of the Finance Committee at the church. He served in the U.S.
Army during World War II and retired from Union Oil Company of
California as a production foreman. He was a very peace-filled man

Grace E. Lee, 55, a native of Lafourche Parish and resident of
Galliano, died at 3:08 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013. Visitation will be

Willis J. Lefort, 82, a native of Golden Meadow and resident of

Roland A. Lirette Jr., a native of Houma and resident of Diamond City,
Ark., went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013. He was born
Nov. 6, 1947. No services are scheduled at this time. He is survived
by his loving wife, Diana Lirette, of Diamond City, Ark.; brothers,
Eric Lirette of New Orleans, and John Lirette of Columbus, Ind.; and
many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Roland A. and Arabella Fonseca Lirette. Roland
married the love of his life, Diana Eschete, Sept. 10, 1976 in
Lockport. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a police officer and an oilfield
pipe welder. He also worked in maintenance at Arkansas Medical Center
in Harrison, Ark., and he loved to go golfing. Roland loved Jesus
Christ. He also loved his wife and family very dearly and will be
missed by many.

Sherry Hotard Lirette, 65, a native of Kraemer, and resident of
Thibodaux, entered eternal life Friday, March 15, 2013. A memorial

Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Thibodaux. She is survived by
her husband of 49 years, Roger "Black" Lirette; daughter, Dawn
Thibodaux and husband, Brian; sons, Ryan Lirette and James Lirette;
four grandchildren, Angel Adams and husband, Benjamin, Jordan Lirette,
Blaise Lirette and Brandon Thibodaux; brother, Claude "Bud" Hotard
Jr.; and sister, Beverly Oubre. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Claude and Earline Hotard; brother, Gordon Hotard; and
grandchild, Jayce Lirette. She was a strong, stern, hardworking and
loving person who always made sure her family and friends were taken
care of. Loving life for what it is, she often defied the laws of life
to ensure that she lived without a moment of regret. Keeping the Lord
at her side, she did not fear, as she was confident in the Lord's
plans. She was a role model and a leader as she embraced God's plans
and never questioned his intentions. She will be dearly missed by

Founder of the Krewe of Agmaroil in Franklin, a past president of the
Franklin Little League, active with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots

Gerald P. Naquin, 71, a resident of Point-aux-Chenes, was called home

wife of 51 years, Elaine Rodrigue Naquin. Together they raised one

Calvin Hobert Nelson, of Houston, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March

childhood friends. I do not know why, but I seem to be obsessed with
the place of my roots — the place I called 'home' for the first 12

OLIVIER, ELLZE "CHICKIE" (BROWN)

Ellze "Chickie" Brown Olivier, was born on July 17, 1932, and died
Tuesday, March 19, 2013. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday
at First United Methodist Church in Houma. She is survived by her
husband, of 63 years, Beryl "B.J." Olivier; children, Frank Daniel
(Suzette) of Douglasville, Ga., Farley of Kentucky, Laura Beth (David)
Olivier Dupree of Houma, and Kevin "Kip" of Houma; grandchildren,
Trisha Ponville and companion, Andrew Stump, David, Joshua (Kim)
Ponville, Staci (Michael) Parker, Tim Olivier, Marissa and Quinn;
great-grandchildren, Emily, Dilan, Gabriel and Sadi; step-
grandchildren, Kelsey, Jason and Merle. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Ervin and Ellze Brunet Brown; son, William Jeffrey
Olivier; and infant daughter, Darlene. Chickie was born in New York,
N.Y., to Ervin Floyd Brown and Ellze Brunet Brown of Houma. Her family
moved back to Houma when she was 10 years old, and she attended St.
Francis de Sales School. She later attended Terrebonne High School,
was in the band and was a majorette and a flag bearer. She was married
to Beryl "B.J." Olivier at age 17, and five months later contracted
polio. The rest of her life was spent in a wheelchair, though she did
not consider herself disabled. She belonged to many organizations over
the years and was appointed by Gov. Edwin Edwards to head the
Terrebonne Parish Bicentennial Committee from 1972 to 1976. She was
the only person in Louisiana to serve on two boards simultaneously at
that time. She chaired the Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped as
well as Terrebonne Parish Committee for the Disabled. She was
appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for Terrebonne Parish
Criminal Justice Complex, the Crime Victim's Board and the Juvenile
Justice Committee. She was very involved in the parent-teacher
organization of the schools her children attended, Honduras
Elementary, East Houma Elementary, Oaklawn Middle School and Oaklawn
Band Club. She participated in all of these activities in spite of her
disability and being wheel-chair bound. She raised her five children
while Beryl was off-shore with no help. She was such an inspiration in
the lives of her children that her oldest son, at the age of 18, ran
for the Terrebonne Parish School Board and won, being the youngest
elected official in the state and the youngest ever to serve in

Donna H. Semien, 60, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of
Peoria, Ariz., passed away Friday, March 8, 2013. Funeral services

mother. She is survived by two sons, Alejandro Semien and wife,

Alexandria Semien of Phoenix, Ariz; brother, Ronald Hickman and wife,

from complications of Alzheimer's Friday, March 8, 2013, surrounded by

Tommy James Thibodaux II, 24, a native of Thibodaux, and resident of

Timothy Shawn Torrence, 42, passed away peacefully but suddenly at his
home, Friday, March 8, 2013. A memorial service to celebrate his life
will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in
Bogalusa. He will be cremated, and burial at sea will follow at a
later date. He is survived by his mother, Rosemary, of Sunrise Beach,
Texas; father, Timothy, of Larose; stepmother, Carolyn, of Larose;
sister, Libby and husband, David Horn; nieces, Trista and Tory and
their children, Rene and husband, Eric Vanderzee; nephews, Austin and
Sterling; uncle, Terry Torrence and wife, Eva; aunt, Beverly Torrence
and companion, John. His life began Jan. 16, 1971, at Lackland AFB in
San Antonio, Texas. He moved to Grand Isle in June 1972 when his
father was transferred there with the U.S. Coast Guard. He attended
elementary school on Grand Isle, then junior high school in Golden
Meadow. He was a graduate of South Lafourche High School. After
graduating he enrolled in an apprentice seaman's course for three
months at Louisiana Marine and Petroleum Institute in Houma. He was
hired upon graduation by Petrol Marine as an ordinary seaman and
remained with them until they were sold to Hornbeck. During that time
he advanced to 500 ton mate, and the company was bought by Tidewater.
He advanced to a 1600 ton ocean master at the age of 26. When he left
Tidewater, he was employed by Kim Susan Inc. in Larose until his
untimely death. He was the senior captain with the company and very
highly regarded by all who worked with him and knew him. A master
mariner and excellent ship handler, he spent his entire seagoing
career on offshore supply vessels. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and
most outdoor activities. He was briefly married one time and had no
children. His one true love was the sea. He also had a passion for
photographing sunsets at sea which were beyond compare. He was a kind
and gentle soul, who loved his family and friends. In lieu of flowers,

Charles J. Usé Jr., 87, a native of Raceland, former resident of
Houma, and resident of Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully at 2 a.m.
Friday, March 1, 2013, due to complications from Parkinson's disease
and pneumonia. A memorial service will be Saturday at Lamb of God
Lutheran Church in Flower Mound/Lewisville, Texas. He is survived by
his loving wife of 61 years, Claire Booth; son, Charles III and wife,
Becky; grandson, Charles IV and wife, Hope, of Houston, Texas;
daughter, Kelley of Virginia; great-grandchild, Aubrey; brothers,
Wade, from Houma, and Clark, of Raceland; and sister, Ruby, of
Mandeville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and
Frazine Bourgeois Usé; sisters, Lola Van Scoter and Juanita Claudel;
brothers, Ray and Luke. Charles was a graduate of Raceland High School
and served in the U.S. Navy. After he attained a degree from LSU, he
taught school in Lafourche Parish. He worked with a seismograph crew
in Jasper, Texas, before becoming a State Farm agent in Nederland,
Texas. The family would like to extend their thanks to his caretakers

Pamela Scully Vallelungo, 50, a native of Morgan City and resident of
Houma, died at 9:49 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Visitation will be

Liturgy of the Word will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. She
is survived by her husband, Paul Rory Vallelungo; son, Jason
Vallelungo and wife, Jenna; daughter, Jessica Vallelungo and Willie
Bourg; parents, Anabelle Mayon Scully and late husband, Herbert
Scully; grandchildren, Paige and Johnathan Vallelungo; and brothers,
Herbert Scully Jr., Al Bruce Scully and Diane, and Shawn Scully. She

John Paul Vandercook Sr., 88, a native of Little Rock, Ark., and

Enola "Nola" Vedros, 65, a native and resident of Napoleonville, was
called home to the Lord Saturday, March 16, 2013. Visitation will be

Plattenville. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at
the church, with burial in Assumption Catholic Church cemetery in
Plattenville. She is survived by her son, Shelly "Pop" Vedros Jr. and
his wife, Shanee Barrios Vedros; granddaughter, Sophia Vedros;
sisters, Joyce Cavalier, Jeanne Bergeron, Suzanne Boudreaux, Alice
Boudreaux, Lillian "Lilly" Templet, and Barbara "Bobbie" Thibodeaux;
and sister in Christ Tina Cavalier. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Felix and Lillian Landry; brothers, Felix and Anthony "Tony"
Landry; and sister, Shirley Cavalier. Nola retired from the Assumption
Parish Sheriff's Office in 2002. Shortly after, she began her baby
sitting career taking care of her babies, Shae, Livie, and Sophia. She
was a loving mother, grandmother, godmother, and aunt to many and a
friend to all who knew her. She was also a devoted Alabama fan. She

Frankie "Keith" Vizinat, 43, a native of Harlington, Texas, and

WAGUESPACK, ANNIE

Annie Elizabeth Waguespack, was born on Nov. 6, 1915, and died at
12:02 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at her home in Lockport with
family members at her side. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport. A Mass of
Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. She is
survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Harris Joseph and Josephine Melancon Waguespack; sisters,
Gleo LeCompte, Marion Waguespack and Anna Mae McClain; and brother,
Harris Waguespack. She was a lifelong resident of Lafourche Parish,
where she was a teacher for nearly 40 years. She graduated from
Northwestern State University with a two-year teaching certificate.
She obtained her four-year degree at LSU. She received her master's
degree at Peabody College in Nashville and later 30-plus hours from
Loyola, Tulane and Northwestern State University. She traveled across
the United States and abroad. She loved spending time with her family
and friends and enjoying good food and beverages. She belonged to
several organizations and gave her time unselfishly. She touched many
lives through the Red Cross, CODOFIL, Louisiana Teachers Association
and many others. She will be sadly missed by many. In lieu of flowers,

Gerald "Jerry" P. Walker, 78, a native and resident of Larose, died
