She is survived by her sister, Margaret Ann Achee Marks and husband, Warren of Houma, and countless nieces, nephews, godchildren, and dear friends who regarded her variously, but always lovingly, as "Marie," "Rie-Rie," and "Aunt Viv." She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmore Achee and Vivian Bienvenue Achee; brothers, Henry, Phillip, Elmore, Richard, Maurice and Donovan Achee; sisters, Helen Rieve, Mercedes Reynolds, Frances Boyne and Agnes Tucker. Marie, or "Aunt Viv," worked as an executive secretary at Exxon for her entire career, retiring in 1986. She travelled extensively throughout Europe and North America and was always open to new cultural and culinary experiences. After retiring, she was a volunteer tax preparer and also gave her time at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She was an enthusiastic LSU football fan, who faithfully climbed the steps of Tiger Stadium well into her eighties. Most importantly, she was ever generous and kind to all who knew her, never forgetting a birthday, baptism or anniversary. Family and friends will always be grateful for her presence in their lives. Although a lifelong resident of Raceland, she moved to Baton Rouge to be near her beloved daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Helen, or "Nana" as she was called by many, never met a stranger. She had a zest for life and loved to talk and laugh. She made friends easily and deeply cared for her many friends, listening, laughing and often offering advice and comfort. She was at her best when she was working and helping others. She took care of her uncle, William "Yom," for more than 35 years, with great love and care. Nana was a fixture at St. Jean Vianney's vacation bible school where she loved working beside the moms and with the children. She was also a prayer warrior and spent many hours each day praying for her family, friends and those on the prayer line. Above all, she was devoted to her family and was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, godmother, nanny and aunt. Special thanks goes to her internist, Dr. Cheri LeBlanc, her oncologist, Dr. Gerard Milletello and Peggy Jo Castine and their wonderful nurses and staff, all of whom not only treated her illnesses, but gave her tender loving care. She passed away peacefully at home in her sleep. Per Donna's wishes, there will be no formal services. She will be cremated and her ashes scattered in Big Deer Bayou down Bayou Dularge near where she caught her first redfish. He was stationed in Casablanca, Africa serving on the fire lines with the damaged planes as they came in. He was always interested in fire fighting. He began his career after serving his country in World War II. During his seven years as fire chief in the Houma Fire Department he received many honors. He was given an outstanding award from the State of Louisiana House of Representatives. They recognized him for his dedicated service as a member of the Houma Fire Department for his continuing commitment and service to the Houma Fire Department. He received an outstanding award by the Independent Insurance Agents of Terrebonne, Inc. He also received a Fire Fighter of the Year award in 1995 from the Terrebonne Rotary Club, Firefighter of the Year in 1985 by the State of Louisiana Veterans of Foreign Wars, an American Legion Commendation Award for outstanding service to his country, Emergency State Service award in 1999 from the Department of Foreign Wars and a service award for 40 years from the Bayou Blue Fire Department. He was still active in the Chief's Association at the time of his passing. He was Judge Advocate and past Commander for American Legion Post No. 3100. He was also the President of North Houma Fire Company, a member of 10 local fire companies, and member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1317 for more than 50 years. He attended Texas A & M Fire Fighting School for several years, receiving certified certificates. He also attended LSU Fire Training school and schooling in Maryrette, Wisc. At age 80 he was honored for being the oldest volunteer fire fighter in the state. He was a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Community Bible Church. He was born in Menomonie, Wisc., to Mae and Alfred Brusen. He had two brothers, Bob (Jene), of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and the late Bill. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot, flying numerous types of aircraft, including the B-29. After the war, he returned to Menomonie, Wisc., to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stout and graduated in 1949. He continued his education at the University of Louisville, which launched a long and successful career as a mechanical engineer. His last job, and his favorite, was with Louisiana Offshore Oil Port as the head of preventive maintenance. He had two daughters, Gail Brusen Clark, of West Richland, Wash., and Jeanie (Mike) James-Moore, of San Diego, Calif., with his first wife, the late Doris Smith. He enjoyed adding a stepdaughter, Susie (Neil) Grotegut, of Salt Lake City, Utah, to his family when he married the late Lynn Sommers.Caroll and Charlotte Smith met and married in 2000. They had 13 wonderful years together traveling, taking 16 cruises and visiting family around the country. He was welcomed into Charlotte's family by her daughters, Sandra (Danny) Collins, of Cut Off, Becky (Paul) Dufrene, of Cut Off, and her son, Terry (Sandra Lee) Smith, of Lafayette. Carroll is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed traveling as a member of The Symphonic Singers, the alumni choir from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. His rich tenor voice was heard in Carnegie Hall and in the major cathedrals in Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom. He savored the memories of singing the Mass in the Vatican in Rome and the gondola tour he and Charlotte took in Venice. He was a resident of Cut Off for 47 years and was an optimistic and kind man. He was a good listener, providing words of wisdom if asked. He enjoyed a good joke and told a good story. He had the ability to quickly analyze a situation, providing solutions that made difficult technical problems look simple. His love of music and singing carried throughout his daily life as he sang and welcomed each new day. He felt he had lived a wonderful, full life. He will be greatly missed by his family. He was born December 24, 1925 to the late Florian Paul and Jeanne Delas Gremillion. Dr. Gremillion receive his early education in the Catholic schools of Thibodaux where the family resided. He received both his Bachelor's in Science and Master's in Science degrees in chemistry and physics at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. For his PhD degree, Dr. Gremillion graduated with honors from Tulane University in New Orleans. He remained at Tulane for two years as a teacher and research associate before joining the Monsanto Chemical Company in St. Louis, Missouri, as a member of the company's research group. In 1962, Dr. Gremillion returned to academia by invitation to work as a scientist at the newly formed University of Arkansas Graduate Institute of Technology where he would oversee graduate students through research projects. In 1977, he joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and remained until his retirement in 1992. He was the author of many published research papers and the recipient of numerous grants throughout his career which supported his research projects with his graduate students. His long love for chemistry was well known by all who knew him and many were aware of his personal chemistry library of over 2,000 books and papers. Dr. Gremillion held membership in the American Chemical Society, ACS Inorganic Division; the American Crystallographic Association; and the honor society of Sigma Xi. She was a longtime resident of Napoleonville. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Napoleonville. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in St. Anne Catholic Church cemetery in Napoleonville. Shirley is survived by her five children: a daughter, Karen Guedry, of Gonzales; four sons, Keith and his wife, Linda, of Napoleonville, Leonard "Len" Jr., of Napoleonville, Paul and his wife, Janice, of Napoleonville, and Neil and his wife, Marsha, of Denham Springs; nine grandchildren, Keith "Kicka" II and Michelle Guedry, of Brusly, Robyn Guedry and Pat Theriot, of Gonzales, Gerry Guedry and Shelley Hooper, of Gonzales, Corey Guedry, of Pineville, Jamie Guedry, of Napoleonville, Dr. Kelly Guedry, of New Orleans, Heather Guedry and Jason Thibodaux, of Napoleonville, and Mitchell Guedry and Kristopher Guedry, of Denham Springs; nine great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Keith "KaCee" III Guedry, of Brusly, Tyler and Patrick Theriot, of Gonzales, Emily and Ashley Guedry, of Pineville, and Ella, Amelia, and Addison Thibodaux, of Napoleonville. Her only remaining sibling, Allen Guillot, and his spouse, Barbara, of Gonzales, also survive Shirley. She was preceded in death by Leonard, her husband of 64 years; her youngest child, Robin Ann Guedry; granddaughter, Leslie Elaine Guedry; her parents, Paul and Sybil Guillot; and three siblings, Kathlyn Rae Dolese, Gerald Guillot, and Paul Guillot. She was the third child of Paul E. Guillot Sr. and Sybil Triche. She married Leonard Guedry Sr. of Napoleonville May 17, 1944. Shirley and Leonard had six children: Keith, Karen, Leonard "Len" Jr., Paul, Neil, and Robin, who is deceased.She attended St. Elizabeth Convent in Paincourtville, and graduated from St. Vincent Institute (now Ascension Catholic High School) in Donaldsonville. She worked as a secretary for Sugar Bowl Gas Company for a few years before her marriage to Leonard Guedry and subsequent move to Daytona Beach, Fla. Upon her return to Napoleonville with her husband and young son, she became a devoted wife and mother. Although she worked as a secretary for Leonard's insurance business, her main focus was caring for her family. Over the years, her hobbies were her Catholic religion, sewing, cooking, and caring for her families and others. She was a member of many local organizations throughout her life. Shirley was a devout Catholic woman. She attended Mass almost daily, prayed for everybody and prayed the rosary every day of the week. She was heavily involved in the local religious education organization and taught catechism to the first communion class of St. Anne Church for more than 30 years. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma. A Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Thursday at the church, with burial in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Larose. She is survived by her daughters, Alana Barquero and companion, Enrique, of Valentine, and Donna Roberts and husband, William, of Springfield, Mo.; son, Dana Guidry and wife, Catherine, of Houma; grandchildren, Alana Guidry and husband, Mark, of Valentine, Enrique Barquero Jr., of Valentine, Jay Griffin, of Springfield, Mo., Danielle Daigle and husband, Hunter, of Baton Rouge, David Guidry, of Houma, and Alexis Guidry, of Houma; great-grandchildren, Tristen Barquero, Dominique Barquero, Brody Guidry, Mia Guidry, Caroline Barquero, Haylee Griffin, Paul Daigle, and André Daigle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Edgar Joseph Guidry Jr.; parents, Clerville Trosclair and Theresa Abadie Trosclair; brothers, Edmund, Norman "Bill," and Alvin Trosclair; and sisters, Edna Haydel and Laurence Marcotte. Enola was born Feb. 4, 1922, on Evergreen Plantation in Edgard. When she was 25, she married Edgar, and they remained together for 35 years until his death in 1982. Edgar owned and ran Guidry's Grocery and Bar in Valentine, which was inherited from his father, while Enola worked in her home raising her three children. She loved her cats, flowers, dancing and bingo, and her strong Catholic/Christian faith and trust in God was unmistakable and unquestionable. She touched many people by her kind, gentle and loving ways. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the loving people at Heritage Manor in Houma for the wonderful care and kindness that was given to Enola for the last three years, and would also like to thank Haydel Hospice for the care and compassion that was given over the last few weeks, and would finally like to thank all of the wonderful people at Terrebonne General, AMG and West Jefferson Hospital for the care that was given to Enola over the last several months.
