After graduation in 1953, she joined the Marionites of the Holy Cross Catholic community. Her bachelor of arts degree was earned from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans. Barbara taught in Catholic schools for 19 years, during which time she was known as Sister Mary Consolata. Thereafter, she returned to the secular community, and her teaching career was in public schools in Terrebonne Parish for more than 30 years. Barbara earned her master's of education degree at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, where she resided. Artistic, creative, versatile and certified to teach many academic fields, her favorite subjects were math and science. Barbara received many awards, including Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America. Fond of animals her entire life, she was devoted to her pet Yorkies. Her selfless devotion to others continued after her father's death, when she became the primary caregiver for her mother, who received Barbara's utmost dedication and attention. Barbara retired to Fannett, Texas, and cherished the opportunity to be close to her nearby Callahan family. In 1955, he began a 40-year career as self-employed owner of Universal Tailors, 318 E. Main St. in Houma, later Universal Men's Wear, 606 and 611 E. Main St. in Houma. He was chairman of the Downtown Merchants Association, and chairman of the retail division of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce. As president of the Houma-Terrebonne Junior Chamber of Commerce, he was a founder of the Krewe of Kajuns Mardi Gras parade. He was president and state chairman of the Louisiana Junior Miss Pageant Inc., and Houma hosted some of those state pageants. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge, becoming a Master Mason in 1961. He served as Worshipful Master of Unity Lodge No. 267 in Houma, in 1966, and as secretary for 11 years. He was an honorary Past Master of Walter I. Lanier Lodge No. 307 in Thibodaux. He served the Grand Lodge of Louisiana as District Deputy Grand Master and District Grand Lecturer, and was appointed Grand Representative to Israel. He is survived by his father, Tilman Gros Sr.; brothers, Greg Gros and wife, Maria, and Louie Gros and wife, Jana; nephews Zachary Gros, Maxwell Gros and neice Amelia Gros; and his godchild and nephew Gregory Gros.He was preceded in death by his mother, Bea Gros; and brothers, Michael, Randall and James Paul Gros. T.J. enjoyed comic books, watching wrestling, puzzles, playing on his computer and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
