Rea Reaux Gilbert, 92, a native of Milton and resident of Thibodaux, died 
Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time today at St. Joseph Co-
Cathedral in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at 
the church, 

with burial in at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral cemetery in Thibodaux. 

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, William "Bill" Gilbert; sister-in-
law, Shirley Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anatole and Virginia Reaux; brother, 
John Reaux; and sister, Rita Reaux Hamilton. 

Rea worked as the Home Demonstration Agent for Lafourche and Assumption 
parishes for many years. 
She received a bachelor's degree from SLI in 1942, and a master's degree from 
LSU in 1965. 
She had been a leader in many clubs and organizations, including the Catholic 
Daughter's of the Americas, Thibodaux Business and Professional Women's Club, 
Bayou Women's Club, Louisiana Home Demonstration Agents Association, and Delta 
Kappa Gamma. 
She also organized and started several clubs and volunteer groups such as the 
Thibodaux Garden Club, the Area Home Gardening Forum in Thibodaux, and the 
Lafourche Council on Aging. 
She volunteered at the local nursing home for more than 20 years and was a 
member of many of these organizations for more than 40 years. 
She was the 2002 Alumni of the Year from Human Resources. 

She will be sorely missed by the residents of St. Joseph Manor. 

Many thanks goes to Ann Thibodeaux and the staff members, as well as her many 
caregivers over the years.
