MEN FROM MADISON CALLED BY DRAFT

First 166 Names from Madison on Draft List.—Official Lists Expected Here Today

Below the Journal gives the names of the first 166 men to be called from Madison for the National Army. While this list was made up from the published list of numbers and is approximately correct, there may be errors in it caused by errors in the list used. It was the intention of the Journal to make this list from the official list, and up to the time of going to press, that list had not arrived.

This approximately correct list will serve as an advance notice to the registered men, and next week, after comparison with the official list corrections will be made.

The quota from this parish is 83 men, and it is expected that this number will be taken from the first 166 men called, though if the number of exemptions and rejections run higher than it expected, more men will be called until the quota is filled. For that reason the Journal printed this week only the first 166 names drawn. On another page of this issue will be found instructions for registered men, and the complete list of numbers and the order in which they were drawn.

NOTE: The first World War I Draft Registration was started on June 5, 1917 and called for the registration of all those between the ages of 21 and 31. Below is the first list of potential draftees from Madison Parish. It was published in the Madison Journal on June 28, 1917. RPS November 2013.
