All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Mettie Ruth Alexander - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Post January 27, 2013 Mettie Ruth Alexander died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at her home. She was 73. Mrs. Alexander was a native of Collins and lived most of her life in Vicksburg and Delta, La. She retired as an office manager from Shainberg’s Department Store and worked for Griffith Florist for many years. She was a member of Mound Baptist Church in Mound, La. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Alexander Sr.; her son, James D. “GeeGee” Alexander; her parents, Lymand and Ina Higgins; three brothers, Ronnie Higgins, Joe Higgins and Henry G. Higgins; and four sisters, Peggy Wester, Louise Cosby, Katie Mathis and Jeanie Ogden. She is survived by two sons, George H. Alexander Jr. and Tommy N. Alexander, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Alexis Alexander of Delta; two brothers, Johnny Higgins of Greenwood and Billy Higgins of Raymond; two sisters, Helen Henley of Vicksburg and Ancie Greer of Moselle; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Wayside Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon until the hour of service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be David Beckham, Tommy Berryhill, Sonny Alexander, Billy Joe Higgins, Lyman Greer and Mitchell Greer. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Pace, Dr. Lee Giffin, Mary Helen Ameen and Cydnie Rowe.
