H. Allen Local Resident, Dies Sunday Mrs. Virginia Waite Allen, 72, widow of the late D. H. Allen, former mayor of Tallulah and Madison Parish Tax Assessor, died in a Vicksburg hospital early last Sunday after a brief illness. Mrs. Allen was born in Dyersburg, Tenn., and came to Tallulah as a school teacher in 1906. She was an active civic worker and had held offices in several women's organizations. Mrs. Allen was an active member of the Tallulah Methodist Church at the time of her death. Her late husband had served as mayor of Tallulah for 12 years and afterwards was Madison Parish Tax Assessor for eight years. Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Monday afternoon in the Tallulah Methodist Church with the Rev. William F. Mayo, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Surviving are her son, Dr. Dean H. Allen, Tallulah; a sister, Mrs. Eva McLean, Tallulah; three grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Don Sevier, Barton Sevier, Henry C. Sevier, Jr., R. W. Gandy, Jr., Jim Gilfoil, Walter Scott, Jack Folk and Jim Folk.
