All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Fannie Peterkin Bettis - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, January 13, 1967 Mrs. Stanton Bettis Long Time Resident, Dies Mrs. Stanton Bettis, died early Monday morning, in Madison Parish Hospital after a long illness, She was 79 and had made her home in Madison Parish since 1901, when she came with her family from Bastrop, La. She was the former, Miss Frances Peterkin. She was married to Mr. Stanton Bettis in 1914 in Trinity Episcopal Church, Tallulah. Mrs. Bettis, a devoted wife and mother was active throughout her lifetime in civic affairs. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, and was active in church work until recently. She was a member and past president of the Tallulah Book Club and a member of the D. A. R. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Ed. Eiland of Tallulah, and Mrs. William Parkerson, Jr. of Baton Rouge, La., and three grandchildren, Betty Coleman Kincaid of Baton Rouge, La.; Mr. Edward Eiland, Jr. and Mr. Stanton Eiland. Miss Anne Ward, Miss Margaret Ward and Mrs. W. C. Starrett of Tallulah are her nieces. Also surviving is her brother, Mr. Fred Peterkin of Hot Springs, Ark. Interment was in Silver Cross Cemetery here, after services at ten thirty in the morning, Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Joseph Harrison officiating. Pallbearers were: William H. Morris, Robert Todd Morris, J. Don Sevier, Edward Yerger, Harry Holt and Judge C. C. Adams.
