Louis Buckner, Jr., 70, passed away on the morning of July 4, 2026, in Dalton, Georgia, due to complications from heart and kidney failure.

Born on May 13, 1956, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Louis was the eldest of six children of Louis and Betty Buckner. He grew up in Tallulah, Louisiana, and graduated from Tallulah High School in 1974. A gifted student with a sharp mind and steady determination, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from Louisiana State University. At LSU, he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, where he formed lasting friendships. His years of work as a real estate consultant took him across the country.

Louis served his country with honor as a Captain in the United States Army, 48th Infantry Brigade during the Persian Gulf War. Integrity, leadership, and devotion to duty remained central in his life.

His deep interest in government and public policy led him to author Let’s Fix Congress!: How You Can Help Change American Government…Forever! Through this work, Louis shared his belief in thoughtful civic engagement and his hope for meaningful reform within the American political system.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Betty Buckner, both in 2002, and by his sister, Georgie Buckner, in 2017.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Billie Jean Morgan; his siblings N. Ellis Buckner (Cindy), Janie Buckner Fabre (Kent), Elizabeth Buckner Shelton (Mark), and Harry N. Buckner (Julie). His nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and his bonus family, all cherished him deeply.

Louis will be remembered for his keen intellect, his devotion to his country, and his unwavering commitment to improve the world around him. He loved music and art, and after his high school trombone days, he continued to enjoy playing guitar, harmonica, and singing. His thoughtful writings and strong convictions left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Kent Fabre, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at The Church at Tallulah, 1104 Tampa St., Tallulah, LA. Burial of ashes will follow at Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, Mississippi.
