Byrd - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal July 24, 1953 Mr. P.W. Byrd, Former School Principal, Dies Funeral Services for P. W. Byrd, 70, of Tallulah, were held at 10:00 A. M. Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Rev. Shirley Briggs officiated with burial following in the Silver Cross Cemetery. Byrd died in a Vicksburg hospital Monday night after a long illness. He was a resident of Tallulah since 1920. He was connected with Tallulah High School for 12 years serving as principal from 1920 to 1932. He was principal of the Mer Rouge High School for several years before coming here. He was active in the New York Insurance business for eight years. Later he served as a deputy in the Sheriff's Office for 7½ years. For the past 4 ½ years Byrd was employed by the Associated Charities of Madison Parish. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Germany Byrd; one brother, L. J. Byrd, of Hot Springs, Ark.; and one sister, Mrs. Ed Maher, of Fayette, Miss. Byrd was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tallulah and was an active Mason. The pallbearers included: A. J. Wade, Walter Byrd, Frank Thomas, Paul Byrd, L. T. Wade, Jr., C. C. Germany, Jr., Jack Germany and Louis Ballard. Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. H. S. Provine, Dr. George Martin, Dr. Gus Street, C E. Hester, George Webb, Sr., J. C. Stocks, Henry C. Sevier, Sr., Don Sevier, M. M. Bloom, A. L. Sevier, R. R. Spigener, Maxwell Yerger, Andrew Yerger, W. F. Powell, A. J. Boswell, Dr. L. J. Clarke, E. B. Towne, Sr., Douglas Fortner and M. M. Crothers.
