All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Doris Harris Carpenter - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal January 12, 1994 Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Harris Carpenter; 92, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Mrs. Carpenter died Thursday at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. She was born in Hinds County, Miss. and lived her early life in the Chapel Hill Community, moving to Vicksburg in 1916. She moved to Tallulah in 1944. Mrs. Carpenter worked for the PP Williams Co. and Firestone Co. in Vicksburg. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tallulah, the Baptist Missionary Union and the Monday Sewing Club. She had served as Grand Matron of the Eastern Star, secretary of the Daughters of the American Revolution and as a member of the school board. Survivors include one sister, Mabel Harris Loviza of Vicksburg; one stepson, Gen. John W. Carpenter III; three step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were great-nephews: Philip Vedros II, Mark Vedros, Stephen Vedros, John Loviza Jr., Tom Loviza, Mike Loviza, Peter Irby, Griff Irby, Joseph Curro III, Christopher Curro, Gregory Curro, Jerome Curro, Michael Stewart, Timothy Wright, David Derasaugh and Terry Sandford. Memorials may be made to the Tallulah First Baptist Church.
