Cason - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Evening Post, February 27, 1940 MADISON PARISH ASSESSOR DIES AT TALLULAH Had Been in Office 24 Years and Recently Re-elected TALLULAH, La., Feb. 27 - James L. Cason, 65, Madison parish tax assessor for the past 24 years, died this morning at a Tallulah Hospital following a heart attack. He had been in ill health for some time. Cason was nominated for another term as assessor at the Democratic primary January 16. Cason was a native of Delhi, but had lived in Madison parish since early manhood. He was a steward in the Tallulah Methodist church and a prominent Mason. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Alnut Cason; one son, James Alnut Cason, of Victoria, Tex, and three daughters, Mrs. Ellen Fortner, Mrs. Albert Sherwln and Mrs. Wallace Lancaster of Tallulah. A brother, George E. Cason of Delhi, and five grandchildren, also survive. Funeral services will be held at the Tallulah Methodist church on Wednesday at 2 p. m. with the Rev. D. W. Poole, pastor, officiating. Dr. Joseph Whitaker of St. Joseph will conduct masonic rites at the graveside. From Madison Journal March 1, 1940 Funeral Services For James L. Cason Held Wednesday Funeral services for James L. Cason, 65, Madison parish tax assessor for the past 24 years, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 :00 P. M. at the Tallulah Methodist Church, with Rev. D. W. Poole, pastor, officiating. Mr. Cason had been in failing health for several months, and he died early Tuesday morning at the Stevens clinic, following a heart attack. He had been taken to the clinic a day or two before his death and was reported to have shown signs of improvement shortly before the end came. After the services at the church, burial took place in the Silver Cross Cemetery here with Masonic rites, conducted by Dr. Joseph Whitaker, of St. Joseph.
