Cassell, who recently moved back to Tallulah after an absence of several years, is expressed in a letter sent to the county agent's office by J. W. Bateman, director of agricultural extension at Louisiana State id University. The letter reads as follows: "To the Member s of the Agricultural Extension Organization: "You will note with regret the death of our faithful, devoted and Christian co-worker, H. F. Cassell. "No one in the civil service of the country has given a better account of himself to his fellow citizens than Mr. Cassell. He was energetic in his work, kind in his dealings, and he consecrated and devoted his life to his duty. He was loved by young and old alike and his life was a living example for all those who came under his influence. The youth of the farms today might follow with hope, ambition and with a full expectation of success the path which he trod. "Mr. Cassell was retired by the board of administrators of the Louisiana State University agricultural and mechanical college on June 1, 1937. The university set forth a stipend which would enable him to live in comfort and it was hoped that he would enjoy this for many years, and so it is with deep regret that this exemplary life was snuffed out so soon after he had earned this period of rest at the end of his career. "At the time of his death, August 12, 1937, he was living at Tallulah, Madison Parish. He was buried at Canton, Miss., August 13, 1937. "Mr. Cassell was born in Canton, Miss., in 1866. He attended Mississippi A. & M. College and following his graduation managed the Cassell Nurseries for seven years. He entered extension in Arkansas as a county agent in 1911. It was in 1915 that Mr. Cassell joined the ranks of Louisiana extension workers, having been named county agent in Tangipahoa Parish. Mr. Cassell remained there until 1926, when he was transferred to Madison Parish. Mr. Cassell closed his active career in Vernon Parish as county agent in 1937, having served there since 1935. "Flowers were sent by members of the extension organization and an official representative of the agricultural extension service attended the funeral."
