Jean Williams Cheek, 72, of Delhi was born on April 11, 1938 in Madison Parish, LA one of six children born to the union of Renford C. Williams and Eunice Ponder Williams.


She passed from this life into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.


Jean was a graduate of Tallulah High School. She attended and received a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from NLU in Monroe and a Master's Degree from LA Tech University in Ruston.


She received her PHD in Fashion Merchandising from Texas Womens University in Denton, TX. Jean taught Home Economics at West Monroe High School and Oxford High School in Oxford, MS. She also served as an Extension Home Economist for the State of LA and MS and was at the University of MS as Director of the Fashion Merchandising Program and later became Department Chair of the Dept. of Family and Consumer Sciences.


She is preceded in death by her parents, and two siblings, Bobby Ray Williams and June Horton.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Delhi Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Lipe officiating.


Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, October 29th at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi. Burial will be in Faith Memorial Park Cemetery south of Delhi under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
