All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Mary Claughton - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, February 22, 1963 Services For Mrs. Claughton Held Sunday Saddened relatives and a host of friends were grieved this week at the death of Mrs. C. B. (Mary) Claughton on Friday, February 15, 1963 at 9:45 p. m. at her home on North Cedar Street. Mrs. Claughton was well known by most of the younger generation here, having taught in the Tallulah Schools since 1922 until her retirement in 1954. She will be remembered by all of them and a host of friends for her friendliness. She was born September 5, 1887 in Centreville, Miss., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Germany, one of the older families of that community. After graduating from Centreville schools she attended and received her degree from Women's College, Oxford, Miss. She taught in Centreville and in Concordia Parish, where she met and married Mr. Charles B. Claughton on June 15, 1915. They came to Tallulah to make their home in 1917, and she has lived at her present home since then. She was an organizing member of the Tallulah Presbyterian Church, a member of the Eastern Star, and for many years a member of the Tallulah Book Club. She has given of her efforts always in the work of her church and attended church regularly. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Miss Peggy Claughton, who survives her. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. P. W. Byrd of Tallulah, and Mrs. L. T. Wade, Sr., of Rolling Fork, Miss., and one brother, Mr. J. H. Germany of Mansfield, Ohio. Her nephews served as pallbearers, they were: Mr. George Lalland, Mr. Jack Germany and Mr. George Germany, all of New Iberia, La., Mr. L. C. Wade. Jr.. Mr. J. R. Wade, and Mr. Larry Wade, all of Rolling Fork, Miss., C. C. Germany and Randy Patton of Centreville, Miss. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from Tallulah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Lott conducting the services and at the graveside. Interment was in Silver Cross Cemetery.
