H. Collins, better known as Mrs. Kate Collins, died Monday night in St. Joseph's home for the aged at the age of 100 years. She had passed the century mark in June. She came to Tallulah some forty-five years ago, with her husband Ca pt. J. H. Collins, from Texas. Captain Collins had been a confederate officer from Texas. He had met Miss Katie in her home in Charleston, Ind. He married there and they came to Tallulah from Texas. Captain Collins died many years ago, and Mrs. Collins continued to make her home on N. Cedar St. until six years ago, when her granddaughter took her to St. Joseph for care. She was librarian for the Tallulah Book Club, when they carried on the only library in town, and was one of the beloved members of that civic organization, as well as the Presbyterian Church, which she attended regularly and worked in every way of which she was capable until she left for St. Joseph. She has many friends, both in the Presbyterian Church and in the Book Club. Miss Peggy Claughton and Miss Hazel Jean Moberly were with her at the time of her death. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the Presbyterian Church at 10:30, with the Rev. Dan Lott officiating. Interment followed in Silver Cross Cemetery. Mrs. Collins is survived by Captain Collin's granddaughter, the former Gloria Ann Hoke, who grew up in Tallulah, and now Mrs. Stanly H. Stephens, San Marino, Calif., and a grandson, George A. Hoke, Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif., and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Gus Willett, John Simpson, Jim Folk, Malcolm Sevier and Will Clark.
