All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Velma Colvin - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, December 15, 1962 Miss Colvin Killed in Automobile Wreck Was Teacher in Madison for 38 Years Miss Velma Colvin, Tallulah Elementary school teacher in Madison Parish for the past 38 years, was killed instantly last Sunday around 2 p. m. on Highway 165 seven miles north of Ruston, when her automobile collided with a Ruston Negro, Arthur Elam. A Dubach Negro, Cleveland Anderson, a passenger in the car with Elam, died from injures 20 minutes after arriving at a Ruston hospital it was reported. Miss Colvin was returning to Tallulah after a visit with relatives in Dubach when the accident occurred. According to reports, Elam who was going north, tried to pass another vehicle on a curve hill when he met Miss Colvin's automobile, which was traveling south. Although both cars were completely demolished no skid marks could be seen in the misting rain, it was reported. Funeral services for Miss Colvin were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Dubach Baptist Church with the Rev. D. A. Doughty officiating. Burial followed in the Unionville Cemetery. Survivors include three sisters, Miss Willie Colvin, Dubach, Mrs. J. C. Powdrill, Minden, and Mrs. W. B. Hollingsworth, Monroe ; three brothers, Lindell Colvin and Emmitt Colvin, both of Minden, and W. J. Colvin of Dubach.
