Velma Bush Delancey, 86, of Benton, Mississippi departed peacefully from this life on December 17, 2013. She was surrounded by her husband, children, family and friends. She was born June 14, 1927 to Luther Evert and Florence Lee Cathy Bush of Delhi, La.

Velma was a God-fearing woman who always put God first in all areas of her life. While dearly loved by many, she was both respected and admired by all as a woman who truly walked in the footsteps of Jesus.

Velma taught bible class for many years at the Yazoo Church of Christ. She was very interested in mission work and made numerous trips to the Caribbean Islands of Antigua, Haiti, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Trinidad. She also made other visits to the Holy Land and Jordan, Rome and Italy.

Velma graduated from Tallulah High School, Tallulah, La. and Bish-Mathis Institute; Monroe, La.

Velma enjoyed sewing and crafts, gardening, landscaping, traveling and church work.

For many years Velma was a member of the Ridge Road Homemakers Club and the Girl Scout Council of Yazoo City.

Velma enjoyed animals and was a dedicated advocate of supporting many animal foundations. She had a tender heart for animals in distress or need.

Velma spent sixty six and one half years with the love of her life, husband, Wilburn Delancey. She loved her children and family members.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Florence Bush; sister Wanda Bush Chauncey; brothers Bruce Duvonne Bush and Sheldon Donald Bush.

She is survived by her husband of 66 1/2 years, Wilburn Delancey; daughters Linda Susan Delancey, Benton, Mississippi and Sandra Louise Delancey, Clinton Mississippi; one sister Juanita Bush Grubbs of Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held at the Yazoo City Church of Christ Thursday December 19th at 2:00 PM with visitation from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. at the church building. Another service will be held at the Delhi Church of Christ, Delhi, Louisiana, on Friday December 20th with visitation from 9:30 AM until 11 :30 AM at the church building followed by the service at 1 :00 PM with Ray Franks officiating assisted by Al Franks and Trey Henry. Burial followed at the Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
