She was born on April 6, 1915 in Ackerman, Mississippi, and in 1936 married Harrie Hue Devine of Tallulah, Louisiana, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children; Katherine Frye, Harriet Devine, John Devine and his wife, Connie, and Louise Divine and her husband, Herman Holley, and nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Blanche and her husband lived in Macon, Georgia for many years where Harrie Hue was employed by Proctor & Gamble. She was a vibrant member of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Macon and served faithfully on the altar guild. Her determination and conquering spirit enabled her to overcome the paralysis and chronic pain of an accident at age 40 and live a joyful life. Later, in 1974 she bravely boarded a 24' SeaCamper with her husband and two grandsons, Daniel Fodera, 13 and Nathan Frye, 11. They cruised 3,000 miles of the United States' and Canada's waterways known as "America's Great Loop". From Brunswick, Georgia up the east coast across the St Lawrence and the Great Lakes, down the Illinois River and the great Mississippi. Although she was a steadfast first mate on their 40' yacht , the Lazy Bones, for years after; the Boat Trip with the grandsons was her "trip of a lifetime." Upon her husband's retirement, she and Harrie Hue moved to Diamondhead, Mississippi, where they were an integral part of the developing young community and helped establish the volunteer fire department and St Thomas Episcopal Church. Her favorite activity in Diamondhead was sharing good times with friends, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends' children on Gulf and river excursions on the Lazy Bones. Blanche was unanimously selected and crowned the Queen of the Sea for the first Diamondhead Mardi Gras celebration in 1976. For twenty two years she reigned as "the radiant, the sparkling, and oh so lovable, Queen Mother" of Diamondhead. She will always be the Queen of Hearts for her family. Her move to Westminster Oaks in 1998 brought her into another new social circle where she quickly found able bridge partners and many good friends. She was a champion bridge player and sought as a partner as much for her skill as her good nature. Kind, loving, and a great good cook, she was a killer at the bridge table. Blanche was also an accomplished gardener and floral designer. Her family was her center, and her ability to make friends til the end was a tribute to her ability to make every one she came in contact with feel appreciated and respected. A memorial service was held at Westminster Oaks. A Celebration of Blanche's life is scheduled for June 12, 2011 at Turkey Hill Farm. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be donated to your favorite charity.
