All rights reserved. ************************************************ Betty Kaye Gilfoil Drouant - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Lafayette Daily Advertiser, September 15, 2005 Kay Drouant LAFAYETTE -- Funeral services will be held at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church for Kay Drouant, 74, the former Kathryn Elizabeth Gilfoil, who died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. The Rev. Father Paul Bienvenu, pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. During her life she served as a pillar to her family and to the societies to which she belonged. She was born Sept. 14, 1930 in Shreveport, La. During her young life, her family traveled and lived in many places to follow her father's career. Her family lived in the Philippine Islands during World War II. It was there that her family was captured by the Japanese and were kept as POW's for about three years. She graduated from the Southwestern Louisiana Institute and became an English teacher at Breaux Bridge High School. After raising her six children to school age, she continued teaching to help support her family. During those years, she taught kindergarten at Alice Boucher Elementary and English at Carencro High School. She had a lifelong love for animals and plants and flowers. She had many passions, most notably was her grandchildren. Upon retiring from the education system, she thrust herself wholeheartedly into her yard to try to get as many flowers planted there as humanly possible. She became the president of the Lafayette Garden Club on several occasions and her yard was featured as the Yard of the Month on several occasions. She was member of several other groups such as the Orchid and Hibiscus clubs. She and her husband, Louis, became enchanted in Cajun dancing. They became the very best that they could be and were known by anyone in the area for their twirling around the dance floor. They became members of Renaissance Acadianne, a Cajun dancing and acting group, and performed many activities including Festivals Acadian, Festivals International, trips to France and Canada teaching and performing. She also enjoyed working with her animals, most notably her dog, Tuffy. She leaves behind many loving family member and friends. Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Louis Drouant; children, David Drouant, Steve Drouant and his wife, Dianne, Keith Drouant, Bart Drouant and his wife, Missie, Karen Domingue and Laura Bledsoe and her husband, Gary; her father, William Gilfoil; sisters, Pam Miglio, Patti Carroll and Lyda Hernandez; brother, Mike Gilfoil; grandchildren, Amber Estes, Adam Drouant, Allie Drouant, Ralem Drouant, Leighton Drouant, Rachel Drouant, Keylee Comeaux and her husband, Trey, Kriston Drouant, Kassy Drouant, Eric Domingue, Elizabeth Domingue, Stephanie Domingue, Luke Bledsoe, Logan Bledsoe and Claire Bledsoe; and great-granddaughter, Amya Comeaux. Visitation will be observed from 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand. A rosary will be prayed at 1 p.m.. Pallbearers will be Gary Bledsoe, Keith Drouant, Bart Drouant, Leighton Drouant, Adam Drouant, Luke Bledsoe, Eric Domingue and Paul Sapienza. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Bledsoe and Donald Segura. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either M D Anderson Cancer Hospital or St. Jude's Children Hospital. MADISON COORDINATOR'S NOTE: Although no mention was made in her obituary, Betty Kaye Gilfoil's entire high school education was spent at Tallulah High School, where she graduated in 1948. She was the granddaughter of well-known Madison Parish planter W. R. Gilfoil of Omega.
