All rights reserved. ************************************************ Dorothy Watkins Simon Duckett - Madison Parish, Louisiana Las Vegas (NV) Review-Journal February 3, 2006 Dorothy Watkins Simon Duckett was born to Ida Randall Watkins and Jesse Watkins July 17, 1930, in Tallulah, La. She was one of five children. Dorothy confessed Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a member of the youth choir. Dorothy relocated to Las Vegas, and entered the public school system; 5th Street Elementary School, Las Vegas High School, Clark County Community College and UNLV. She was united in holy matrimony to her childhood sweetheart, Cecil D. Simon, Sr. This union was blessed with three children. Dorothy later met and married Deacon Robert Duckett. He preceded her in death. Dorothy was the first black cashier to join the Retail Clerks Association. Under this association, she was employed at Gilbert Brothers Market and Johnny's Food Basket. She later began working with the Clark County School District and retired after 23 years. Dorothy joined the Second Baptist Church family under the leadership of Pastor V.C.L. Coleman. She was a dedicated, active and involved worker in the Second Baptist Church family. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, three daughters, Shirley Watkins Dickens (Edward) of Las Vegas, Jessie Mae Suttle (Derwina) of Corona, Calif., and Yvonne Simon Arthur of Las Vegas; two sons, Cecil Simon, Jr. (Angela) of Las Vegas, and Perry Nelson of Las Vegas; 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grand-children; and one sister. Viewing will be from 2:30-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Thomas & Jones Funeral Home, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Second Baptist Church, 500 W. Madison Ave.
