DUNCAN, Tolla Jr. (Age 87) Passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington on October 24, 2013. Tolla Jr. was born October 18, 1926 to Tolla and Bessie (Jones) Duncan, in Tallulah, Louisianna.

 

Educated in the public school system of Louisianna and raised on the farm he left at age 18 to join the U.S. Marines during WWII, where he served as a munitions specialist on Guam. After the war he returned home and married Dorothy Coggs in 1949. They settled in Spokane, WA., and raised five children.

 

Because of his work ethic, Tolla obtained a job at Layrite Products, a manufacturing company of brick and blocks for 42 years.

 

Tolla was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon and teacher for 40 years.

 

Tolla is survived by his wife of 28 years Georgianna, children; Ronald, Patricia, Donna, Mark (Christina); step children, Floyd Harris, Phyllis Harris, Jacqueline Canty (AL), Douglas Harris, Judy Lopez (Pete), Jennifer Collins; Brothers, Jessie Duncan (Dorisy), Walter Duncan (Annie), Lonnie Duncan, all of Los Angeles, CA. Sisters, Rosa Kendrick (Luther) Anniebelle Jefferson of Las Vegas, NV; uncle Walter Jones (Edna) of Oakland, CA. Twenty one grand-children; twenty great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Tolla is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Lara Jane Kyle, Annacia Duncan, Martha Duncan, Mary Hamilton, Bessie Adams, and brother, Benjamin Duncan.

 

The service will be held on Friday November 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM, at the West Central Multi-Cultural SDA Church, 1201 W. Spofford, Spokane, WA 99205. In lieu of Flowers, please donate in Tolla's name to the Blind Veteran's Association, American Diabetes Fund or American Heart Association in Spokane, WA.
