All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Whit Erwin - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, February 20, 1959 Tallulah's Fire Chief Whit Erwin, Dies Monday Following Heart Attack; Was Washing Family Automobile Funeral services were held here Wednesday morning at 11 a. m. at Crothers Funeral Chapel for Tallulah's Fire Chief Whit Erwin, who died at the local hospital 6:30 p. m., Monday a short time after suffering a heart attack while washing the family automobile. He was 59. Services were conducted by Rev. William F. Mayo and Rev. Kenneth Book. Services will also be held at the Presbyterian Church in Union Church, Miss., at. 2:30 p. m. Interment will follow in the family plot at Union Church with Masonic rites being held at the grave. A member of the Tallulah Fire Department for more than 25 years, he had been appointed chief only a few months ago by the members of the volunteer fire department. In addition to his duties with the fire department, he was active in the insurance business. 'Mr. Erwin was stricken shortly after 5 p. m., Monday in front of his home. An ambulance was summoned and he was rushed to the Madison Parish Hospital. Born in Jefferson County, Miss., he moved to Madison Parish as a youth. Mr. Erwin was a member of the Eastern Star. He was also a communicant of the Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Vergie Erwin; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Eatmon, Tallulah, and Mrs. Ann Lucas, Greenville, Miss., two brothers, Corban Erwin, Vicksburg, Miss., and Farley Erwin, Jackson, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. Minella Hightower and Mrs. Nellie Burford, both of Greenville, Miss., an four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles Arneson, R. E. Brown, R. R. Spigener, R. G. Waugh, Gene Parker and Max McDonald.
