All rights reserved. *********************************************************************************************** Herman Ethridge - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Madison Journal August 29, 1930 HERMAN ETHRIDGE IS BURIED AT CALHOUN Herman Ethridge, age 37, who was accidentally shot by James Parker on last Sunday, was buried at Calhoun Tuesday with military honors. Members of the Monroe and Ruston American Legion Posts performed the ceremony rites with L. J. Fox, Ruston Legion Commander officiating. The deceased was accidently shot on Sunday morning near the Frank Stubbs plantation a few miles from Delta while the two were training deer hounds. Parker mistook his companion for a deer and a load of buck shots that he fired landed in the victim's heart, temple and head, resulting in almost instant death. Coroner H. C. Sevier conducted investigations on the death and reported it accidentally. No charges were filed by anyone. Mr. Ethridge was a member of the Rayville American Legion Post and farmed on the plantation of R. C. Webb in this Parish. Pall bearers were the following Legion members of Monroe: John Bailey, Florent Hammons, Sam Orchar, Commander F. D. Lippmann and J. G. DeArmand. He is survived by his wife, father and mother and the following sisters: Mrs. Caruthers of Ferriday; Mrs. Calhoun of El Paso, Texas; and Mrs. McKinney of Gibson.
