Field died Monday, May 5, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82. Born in Yazoo City, Mr. Field lived a number of years in Vicksburg, where he attended St. Aloysius and graduated with honors from Culkin Academy. He retired as a major from the Army after serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Mr. Field became director of personnel at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and later, in Gulfport and Biloxi. He returned to Vicksburg in 1995 and attended Catholic and Methodist churches. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Amanda Field of Tallulah; a son, Richard J. Field of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Dorothy Inman of Ocean Springs and Patricia Doehr of Shreveport, La.; a stepdaughter, Pat Caldwell of Tallulah; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and others including, James D. "Buddy" Caldwell of Tallulah and Judy Paxton of Vicksburg. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger McGrew officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
