DOUGLAS FORTNER

The funeral of Douglas Fortner, who died at Street's sanitarium in Vicksburg Friday night after a 
week's illness of pneumonia,was held from the Methodist church here Sunday afternoon, the  Rev. 
W. H. Giles, pastor of the church, officiating. After the impressive ceremonies, the Masonic
lodge conducted the ceremonious rites of the order.

Mr. Fortner was 62 years old, a native of Mississippi, but having been a resident of Madison parish 
for many years. He had been active in the insurance business in Jackson, Miss,, and since coming to 
this section had owned and operated two plantations. He was a member of the Methodist church, a Mason 
and a Shriner.

He is survived by his widow, two sons, Houston of Meridian, Miss., and Douglas of Tallulah; a daughter, 
Miss Louise Fortner of Tallulah; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. H. T. Fortner; 
one brother, Ike Fortner; and two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Pullium of Gulfport, and Mrs. William Jennings.

The active pallbearers were E. P. Jones, Erie Read, A. J. Sevier, E. A. Buckner, R. N. Almond and 
Dr. F. E. Helton. 

Honorary pallbearers included M. L. Piper, A. H. Kell, W. D. Buford, E. B. Saunders, Harry Bankston, 
C. H. Todd, W. M. McDonald, Dr. G. W. Gaines, Dr. H. C. Sevier, T. A. Smith, Jesse Anderson, J. K. Post 
and B. R. Coad.
