Alice Mae Gustafson Gaumnitz, age 101 of Tallulah, LA, passed away
peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. She was born at home on
November 16, 1924, in Devils Lake, North Dakota. She was born with a twin
sister, Arlice Elaine Gustafson. Her other sister, Mavis Burnette Gustafson
Bledsoe, was twin to Merle Gustafson. She also had an older brother, Marlin
Gerald Gustafson. Alice was the daughter of Manfred and Gena (Bergland)
Gustafson of Devils Lake, North Dakota.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and
great-grandmother whose kindness touched all who knew her. She was the
proud mother of 3 children: John Frederick (Freddie) Gaumnitz – spouse Ruthie,
Carl Bruce (Brucie) Gaumnitz (deceased), Cathy Alice Gaumnitz Copes Fulton -
spouse Fred; 7 grandchildren: John Robert Gaumnitz - spouse Jodi, Margaret
Alice Gaumnitz (Meg), Sunny Gaumnitz Hopkins - spouse Jacob, Savannah Gaumnitz
Fortenberry - spouse Houston, Dan Bruce Copes - spouse Kate, Josh Thomas Copes
- spouse Caitlin, Sara Beth Copes Massey - spouse Michael; 2 step
grandchildren, Frederic William Fulton, V - spouse Megan, Matthew Kyle Fulton -
spouse Emily, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, each of
whom held a special place in her heart.
Alice graduated from Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA in 1946.
Alice worked for almost 25 years for Madison Parish Health Unit as a nursing
supervisor until her retirement in 1984. She was a devoted mother to her
children and a devoted wife to her husband. She was a loved Grandmother and
Great Grandmother. She was an active member in her church and longtime member
of Eastern Star. She truly lived a life of service. She genuinely loved people.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Manfred and Gena Gustafson, her
late husband Robert Burke Gaumnitz, her son Carl Bruce Gaumnitz, her brothers,
Marlin Gustafson, Merle Gustafson, and her twin sister Arlice Gustafson Evans
Morris.
She is survived by her sister Mavis Burnett Gustafson Bledsoe.
Pallbearers for the service will be Bruce Copes, Josh Copes, John Robert
Gaumnitz, Michael Cummins, Marlin Evans, Steve Gustafson
Honorary pallbearers will be John Earl Martin, Dan Copes, Michael Massey
A celebration of life will be held at First Methodist Church on Saturday,
January 3, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. with Rev. Henry Stone officiating the service.
Visitation will be one hour before the service.
