Gilfoil - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, March 8, 1957 Services For W. R. Gilfoil Today At 11 A. M. Prominent Resident Of Madison Parish Dies Wednesday Night Funeral services for William R. Gilfoil, prominent resident of Madison Parish, who died in a Vicksburg hospital, Wednesday night will be held today (Friday) at 11 a. m. at the St. Edward's Catholic Church. A Requiem Mass will be said by Father A. M. Hopp of St. Edward's and the sermon will be given by Bishop C. R. Greco of Alexandria. He was 81. Mr. Gilfoil, a well-known merchant and planter had spent his entire life in Madison Parish, making his home at Omega, just north of Tallulah. He was one of the original stockholders of the Tallulah State Bank & Trust Company, which was organized in 1902. He served as chairman of the Board of Directors for about 10 years. Burial followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. A Rosary was held at the family resident at 7 p. m. Thursday night by Father Hopp. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Scott Gilfoil; three sons, William R. Gilfoil, Jr., of Wilmington, Del., George Gilfoil of Baton Rouge and Jim Gilfoil of Tallulah; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth McGuire of Westfield, N. J., and Mrs. Eula Landry of New Iberia, La.; one sister, Sister Scholastica, Order of the Sisters of Mercy of Vicksburg; twenty-one grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dr. H. S. Provine, Don Sevier, H. N. Pippin, C. B. DeMoss, Cliff C. Adams, Andrew Yerger, Field Montgomery and Dr. George Webb. Honorary pallbearers are directors of the Tallulah State Bank & Trust Company, W. Z. Adams, H. C. Sevier, Sr., M. M. Bloom, W. P. Sevier, Jr., E. C. Woodyear, Maxwell Yerger, J. E. Neill, Sr., W. W. Ziegler and A. V. Sevier; Senator A. L. Sevier, Sam Vilardo, C. E. Hester, D. H. Allen and Dr. Gus Street of Vicksburg.
