(Bob) Graves - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, February 15, 1979 Truck accident in bayou claims R.N. (Bob) Graves R. N. (Bob) Graves, 56, died in an accident at noon Wednesday when the truck he was driving went into Brushy Bayou near the Kimbrough Street Bridge. A Madison Parish Sheriff's officials witness reported that Graves was traveling west on U. S. Highway 80 apparently attempting to turn onto the Kimbrough Street bridge when his truck crossed the median and went down the bayou on the west side of the bridge. Cause of death has not been officially determined, the sheriff's office reported. They said one person reported seeing Graves "slumped over" the steering wheel as the truck was leaving the highway, but this was not verified by other witnesses in the area. Officers of the Madison Parish Emergency Unit tried unsuccessfully to revive Graves after he was removed from the pickup truck. He was later pronounced dead at the Dr. T. A. Neumann, parish coroner. Funeral services for Mr. Graves will be held today at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ned L. Stout officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Cross Cemetery under direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Mr. Graves, a prominent planter and owner of Graves Flying Service was a former member of Tallulah's Board of Aldermen and was presently serving on the board of directors of Southern National Bank at Tallulah. A native of Tallulah, he was a graduate of Tallulah High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now USL). He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tallulah where he served as a past president of the administrative board and was a teacher of the Men's Bible Class. He was a captain in the U. S. Air Force and a veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion. He was past chairman of the Madison Recreational Society and a past president of the Louisiana Aerial Applicators Assn. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Grace A. Graves; two daughters, Mrs. J. Carl Smith of Tallulah and Mrs. W. J. Morrow of Las Vegas; his mother, Mrs. A. F. Graves of Tallulah; a brother, Frank A. Graves of Lafayette ; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be J. A. McDaniel, Ollie Cantrell Jr., Warren Patrick, Harvey Mounger, Ralph Loe, Edgar Lancaster, Jr., and W. W. Ziegler Jr., all of Tallulah, W. B. Adams of Jonesboro, W. S. Pierce of St. Louis, Mo., and Charles McKnight of Jackson, Miss. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Methodist Men's Bible Class and the administrative board, A. E. Fisher, Jr., C. M. Tucker, R. E. Eastburn Jr., Tommy Wixson, Robert Gaumnitz, Merle Gustafson, John Earl Martin and Johnny Goss.
