E. Guthrie Dies Saturday Following Illness Walter Edward "Buck" Guthrie, 65, deputy sheriff and custodian of the Madison Parish jail, died Saturday in a Vicksburg hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a member of the Scott-Nicols-Voak Post No. 100, American Legion and the Methodist Church. Services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p. in. with the Rev. William F. Mayor, pastor of First Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed in Silver Cross Cemetery with Young's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He is survived by three brothers, Marion P. Guthrie and T. A. Guthrie, both of Newellton, and M. W. Guthrie of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. M. E. Gould, Bastrop, and Mrs. P. O. Benjamin, Tallulah, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were C. D. Guthrie, Ed Y. Berry, W. A. Guthrie, Walter Benjamin, C. D. Johnson and Owen Moore. The honorary pallbearers were Sheriff C. E. Hester and his staff of deputies; Chief of Police H. C. Massey and members of the Tallulah Police Department and the Madison Parish area state patrolmen.
