G. Hammond Burie Guard Hammond, prominent Madison Parish planter, died at Vicksburg Hospital at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, following a long illness. He was 76. A native of Newton, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hammond. He married the former Bertha Rew of Newton on July 4, 1923. They moved to St. Joseph, Louisiana in 1934 and later to Tallulah in 1941. They had one daughter. Mr. Hammond was a member of the Tallulah Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today at the Crothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Clark Bell officiating. Burial was in Silver Cross Cemetery (actually Memorial Park.) Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Warren Patrick of Tallulah; two sisters, Miss Hattie Hammond of Grenada, Miss., and Mrs. Fred Edwards of Troy, Texas; one niece, Mrs. D. R. Floyd of Dallas, Texas and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Jim Folk, Albert Paxton, Jack Ellerbee, Charlie Richardson, Caster Causey, Jim Gilfoil, Salo Abrahm, Jr. and Stuart Moberley.
