All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Dorothy (Dot) Jane Stocks Hatchell - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Athens (GA) Banner-Herald on November 25, 2012 Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Jane Stocks Hatchell, age 81, of Athens, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012. Born March 21, 1931 in Tallulah, La., she was a daughter of the late Johnnie Curtis and Alberta Land Stocks. She graduated from Tallulah High School in 1948 and from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston in 1952 with a B.A. in Home Economics and a minor in Clothing Art and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. After graduating college, Dot worked as a professional home economist for the Louisiana Power & Light Company in Bogalusa, LA from 1953-58. She married Glyndon E. Hatchell in 1958, Glyn and Dot met through mutual friends while both working in Bogalusa, LA. They moved throughout the south over the years due to Glyn's transfers with the U. S. Forest Service and settled in Athens, GA in 1975. Dot was a member of the Athens First Presbyterian Church. She was known for her delicious southern Louisiana cooking and was a highly skilled seamstress. Dot was a founding member and past president of the Cotton Patch Quilters and a member of the American Rose Society. She was an avid reader and gardener. She played the piano and also built and learned to play the dulcimer. Family members include her husband of 54 years, Glyndon E. Hatchell; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Perry Crenshaw of Toccoa; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kate Hatchell and Brian and Diana Hatchell; grandchildren, Jared Smith, Kayla Hatchell, and Hannah Hatchell; brother and sister-in-law, Johnnie and Shirley Stocks and nephew and niece, Ben Stocks, Melissa O'Connor and Cindy Strawn. Funeral Services will be held at two o'clock Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from the Whitlock Mortuary Chapel with Dr. John Kipp officiating. Burial will follow at Roselane Cemetery, Toccoa, GA. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 1pm until the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, North Georgia Regional Office, 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, GA 30721.
