ANTOIN HAWKINS Mrs. Antoin Hawkins, one of Madison's oldest residents, was laid to rest Thursday morning at Silver Cross Cemetery. A goodly number of her old friends were there to pay the last tribute. She was born at Milliken's Bend, La. 89 years ago, and will be remembered as the daughter (thought to be named Caroline)of Eliza Lowry and H. P. Morancy. She was married to Mr. Antoin Hawkins a merchant of Milliken's Bend. Afterwards they refugee during the war. At his death she returned and made her home with her father. Three sons were born to them; Preston, Morancy and Frank. She is survived by two sons, Morancy, of Little Rock and Frank, of Dallas, with whom she made her home the latter part of her life. Her friends went with her remains from the depot to the Catholic church and the services were sweetly and impressingly conducted by the Rev. Father De' Vrient, after which they were concluded to the grave. Mrs. Hawkins was beloved by everyone. Being brilliant in mind and strong in personality; she was an inspiration to many. She taught in the schools of this parish at Milliken's Bend and two years at Tallulah. The great mother love which she possessed made her an ideal teacher, and was beloved by all the pupils. Little children too young to enter school would beg to attend just to be with her. She was a faithful and true Catholic and always lived the Christ life. Her love was one of tenderness, and showed consideration for those of differing faith. So broad was her love that she seemed to see the good in all and the Christ beneath each heart. The pall bearers were Mr. J. N. Schregleman, A. J. Sevier, Capt. J. B. Stone, Mr. W. D. Ziegler and Mr. J. E. Yerger. Two of her earliest pupils whom he started in letters forty years ago assisted in laying her to rest by her husband and son, Preston. Beautiful flowers attested the love and esteem of friends. The out-of-town relatives were Miss Ida Noland, Mrs. Susan Hart and Miss Carrie Jackson of Lake Providence; Mrs. Leo. Shields, of Transylvania; Mr. Morancy Hawkins of Little Rock; and Mr. Frank Hawkins, of Dallas, Texas. Mrs. William Harvey, of Tallulah is also a niece of Mrs. Hawkins. May peace be with the bereaved, and consolation in the knowledge that the Madison parish friends are with them in Spirit and sympathy. -ONE WHO LOVED HER.
