J. W. Holloway - Madison Parish, Louisiana 

Mr. J. W. Holloway was the patriarch of his family and was known by many people in this area. 
Some knew him as "Mr. J. W.", some as "Mr. Holloway"; but he was also known by several other 
titles by those who loved him and knew him best.
 
He was "Uncle Jake" to his numerous nieces and nephews. His only brother, Thomas Junior, died 
at a young age but J.W. was surrounded by nine sisters born to their parents, Thomas Jefferson 
and Mettie Pepper Holloway of Delhi. All those nieces and nephews grew to admire Uncle Jake and 
treasured the special place he held in their hearts.

He was "Daddy" to his children, Jimmie Lynn Holloway Franklin and Jeff Holloway, born from his 
marriage to his lifelong sweetheart, Margie Carter Holloway. After his discharge from the Navy 
following his service in World War II, he and Margie built a successful family farming operation 
in Madison parish that will be a legacy for their descendants. Their 64-year marriage ended only 
with Margie's death in the summer of 2010. Their devoted and loving care of Jeff after he was 
paralyzed in an accident in 1971 enabled him to remain in his home until the time of his death in 
November. 

But perhaps his most special title was "Gergra". As the first-born grandchild, Shelly Franklin Crawford 
began calling her grandfather Gergra and that was how he was always known by his three grandchildren 
and five great-grandchildren.  J.W.'s grandchildren stole his heart and filled it with pride and love 
and he will forever be remembered as Gergra to them.

J.W. Holloway was born in Madison parish on February 24, 1925 and passed from this life on February 6, 2011 
at his home in the Little Fork community of Madison parish. Funeral services honoring his life will be held 
at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 9th in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro, with internment 
following at the Crowville Masonic Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Bro. Todd Perry and Bro. Marion 
Collier. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Parker and nephews Darren Green, Colby Pepper, Jim Pepper, 
Moe Presley, Brady Cox, Jody Savage and Ted Fontenot. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Emmit Sparks, 
Dennis Ray Franklin, Roger Perot, Travis Walker and Dr. Randall Carver.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margie, son Jeff, son-in-law Tommy Franklin, great-grandson 
Caleb Franklin, his brother Thomas, and sisters Louise Southern, Lola Mae Ezell, Flora Bell Donnell and Arlene Perot. 
He is survived by his daughter, Jimmie Lynn Holloway Franklin of Delhi; grandchildren Shelly Franklin Crawford, 
husband Paul, and Anna & Randall; Steven Franklin, wife Angie, and Emily & Katie; and Jason Franklin, wife Jennifer, 
and Collier; sisters Christine Allen, Velma Carter, Erlene Sanches, Joy Earl, and Sue Franklin and husband Dennis; 
and brother-in-law Roger Perot. 
 
Any man can become a father, but it takes someone special to be a Gergra…and J.W. Holloway was a very, very special man.
