(KNOE 8 News)--Friends, family and co-workers are mourning the loss of a Madison Parish Sheriff Deputy who lost his life Tuesday in a gun accident at his home. Billy Hutto was cleaning his service revolver when a bullet accidentally left in the revolver fired, striking him in the chest. Deputies say his daughter found Hutto's body. Those who worked with Hutto say he was an amazing father, husband and co-worker. "He always went out of his way to try and help people no matter what it took," says investigator Chad Ezell with the Madison Parish Sheriff Department. Investigator James Rash with the Madison Parish Sheriff Department, who knew Hutto his entire life, still can't believe Hutto is gone. "It's been said Billy would give the shirt off his back, he was that type of person," says Rash. Both Rash and Ezell say working with Hutto was an enjoyment, he would come to work with a smile on his face, they say was contagious. "You lose a brother, it's just like losing a family member," says Ezell. They say Hutto was a family man, his family meant the world to him. "He always had a smile on his face, he was friendly, I knew his family, his wife and his daughter, I knew him my whole life, it's hard on them, it's hard on us," says Rash. James Rash and Billy Hutto both spent time as Tallulah police officers before joining the sheriff's department. Hutto worked at the Madison Parish Jail for the past eleven years. Hutto served in law enforcement for a total of thirty years. Those he worked with say they'll miss his smile, but will his smile as a memory. "We're going to try and do everything possible to try and help the family," says Rash. Friends tell us Hutto was well known throughout the community and will be greatly missed. "Just remember him as he was, friendly, and go out of his way to help you type of person," says Ezell. Ezell and Rash will hold a place in their hearts for Hutto-they are two of his pallbearers. Hutto's funeral will be in Tallulah on Friday October 8th at the First Baptist Church. The service starts at 10 am.
