All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Mrs. Dan James - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal July 17, 1969 Mrs. Dan James Rites Held In Vicksburg Funeral services were conducted, Thursday, July 3, 1959 at 10 a.m. for Mrs. Dan A. James who died Wednesday, July 2, following a short illness. Dr. W.F. Mansell conducted the services at the First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg. She was born in Vicksburg, the daughter, of George Bryan Roche and Emma Clark Stout. She married Dan James on October 5, 1903 and they moved to Mound, Louisiana where Mr. James owned and operated Cottage Oakes Plantation. They had one daughter, Katherine, who later married Claude J. Wray. While in Tallulah Mrs. James was a member of the Tallulah Book Club and the Garden Club. She and Mr. James returned to Vicksburg a few years before his death where she was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church, Matinee Musical Club, Vicksburg Little Theater, Vicksburg Historical Society and other civic organizations. Mrs. James is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Claude J. Wray of Vicksburg, one grandson, Dan James Wray of Jupiter, Florida and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were R.L. Dent, Dr. Edley H. Jones, Kenneth Little, J. B. Askew, all of Vicksburg. Andrew Yerger of Tallulah, Wilbur Compton of Frogmore, La. Honorary Pallbearers were Chancelor J.D. Thames, Dr. D. B. Martin, Howard Kimble, R. P. Ferguson, John Raworth, R. C. Wilkerson, Lee Davis Thames, Lawrence Hennessee, Edward Buckner, J. W. Allison, Dr. Norman Stout, all of Vicksburg. E.C. Woodyear, Sr., Mound, Frank Rockwood, Cincinatti, Ohio, Prentiss Derry and T. B. Chandler of Albany, Georgia, Robert Day, Columbia, South Carolina. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home. The family requests that those who desire make memorials to their favorite charity.
