Johnston - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Monroe News-Star January 21, 1972 TALLULAH — Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today in the chapel of Crothers Funeral Home here for Melvin J. Johnston, 84, of Tallulah. The Rev. Crawford Williams officiated, with burial in Silver Cross Cemetery. Mr. Johnston, a native [resident] of Lake Providence, died Tuesday at Delta Haven Nursing Home here after a long illness. He was a retired farmer and member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Blanche Johnston of Tallulah; two sons, Luey Johnston, of Mesquite, Tex., and Johnnie Johnston of El Paso, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Dolly [sic Dollie] Herman of Jonesville; six brothers, M. V. Johnston, Marvin Johnston, Marion Johnston, Merel Johnston, all of Texas, Earl Johnston of California and Roy Johnston of Mississippi; 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Howard Carney, Danny Bedgood, Melvin Bedgood, Bud Taylor, Jack Taylor and Sanford Parker.
