All rights reserved. *********************************************************************************************** Thomas Ray Jones - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Madison Journal December 19, 1941 Tallulah Boy Is Among Those `Lost In Action Ensign Thomas Ray Jones, 23-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Jones, of Tallulah, became Tallulah's first casualty in the war in the Pacific, according to information received here by the young man's parents Saturday. A telegram from the United States government to Mr. and Mrs. Jones informed them that their son had been "lost in action in Hawaii." Ensign Jones received his commission last February 28 after four months in the midshipman's school at New York. While awaiting orders, he had several days leave, and returned to Tallulah for a short time after receiving his commission, and before he reported for duty. He was formerly a sergeant in company E of the R. O. T. C. at Louisiana State University where he attended the college of commerce for three years. Young Jones was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, the Baptist church, and a graduate of Tallulah High School. He played football for Coach M. A. Phillips's Tallulah Trojans for four seasons and graduated from the high school in 1937. He was born March, 31, 1918. He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Burney Jones of Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jack Jones, of Tallulah; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack ] Jones of Crystal Springs, Miss.
