Mr. Kauffmann had been suffering, for some weeks from a nervous breakdown and, it is supposed in a moment of mental aberration, took his life at his place of business in the Spencer block about nine o'clock in the morning. Mr. Kauffmann was a native of France and came to this country at an early age. He was generally liked throughout the parish as was attested by the large number of friends who attended his funeral and who expressed deep sympathy for his family in their hour of distress. Mr. Kauffmann left a wife and one son, Mr. Norman J. Kauffmann who is now a resident of Atlanta, Ga. He was a member of the order of Knights of Pythias, the members of which accompanied his remains to Vicksburg where the interment occurred. Services were conducted by Rabbi Kory, of that city.
