Linton Passes Away Monday One of Tallulah's most beloved citizens, a lady of great friendliness, Mrs. James R. Linton, the former Miss Alice Ewing of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 26 at midnight in the Madison Parish Hospital where she had been a patient for the past week. Although incapacitated for many years due to arthritis, .Mrs. Linton had kept up with her hest of friends, enjoying life and giving everyone about her a feeling of happiness, due to her own sweet nature. She was born December 20, 1883 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to Mr. and Mrs. David F. Ewing, one of four daughters. She graduated from Bethany College, West Virginia, returning to her home town where she taught in the public schools. Here she met and married James R. Linton in 1911. They came to Tallulah, where Mr. Linton was principal and coach of the Tallulah School. They have made their home here since. Mrs. Linton was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, social sorority and of Delta Kappa Gamma, University Women's fraternity. She is a past worthy matron of Chapter 94 of Eastern Star, a member of Tallulah Book Club for 40 years, lifetime member of the Parent-Teacher Association, and at one time president. She is also a valued member of the Methodist Church, to which she devoted so many years of her life. The Alice Linton Sunday School Class attests the love and esteem in which she is held. She had taught Sunday School for 35 years. Funeral services were held from the Tallulah Methodist Church with the Rev. Wm. F. Mayo officiating. Interment followed in Silver Cross Cemetery with Young's Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Linton is survived by her beloved husband, James R Linton, who just recently retired as Superintendent of Education in Madison Parish. Other survivors are her two children, Mr. Ralph Linton of Shreveport, and Mrs. William J. Lee of Stamps, Ark., and two grandchildren; also her sisters, Mrs. Paul Barber of Tallulah, and Mrs. S. P. Smith of Canton, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were M. A. Phillips, Shields Bray, R. R. Spigener, J. C. Sherwin, George Speed, R. E. Brown, Robert Graves and Salo Abrahm. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the official board of the Tallulah Methodist Church, of which Mrs. Linton was a member.
