All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Lida Kent Long - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal March 23, 1972 Former mayor of Delta dies at 75 Mrs. Lida Kent Long, 75, of Delta, died Monday afternoon at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of R. Burney Long and had lived in Delta since her marriage in 1915. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Long served as mayor of the village of Delta from 1949 to 1969. She was born and reared in Hamburg, Miss., and was graduated from Whitworth College in Brookhaven. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church of Vicksburg. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Raymond H. Case of Falls Church, Va., a son, R. Burney Long Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; a brother, William S. Kent of Delta; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services are today at 10 a. m. at the Fisher Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Saul, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Oscar Beaupre, Claude Brady, James Hill, Dudley Pillow, Jr., all of Delta; E. B. Towne and Rufus Yerger of Tallulah; Adam Werling and Paul Oakes of Vicksburg.
