Matthews - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, July 15, 1966 Services Held Monday For J. L. Matthews Funeral services for J. L. Matthews, 67, of Rt. 1, Tallulah was held Tuesday at 10 a. m. at Midway Baptist Church near Epps, with the Rev. Bobby Brown Officiating. Burial followed in the Midway Cemetery. Mr. Matthews died at the Delhi Clinic Sunday night after a long illness. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary E. Matthews; Two sons, Johnnie L. Matthews, Clouterville; and Albert Matthews, of Tallulah. Six daughters, Mrs. Melvin Garsee, Alto, Mrs. Ernest A. McCarty, Tallulah, Mrs. John Wilhite, Tallulah, Miss Arminda Matthews, Tallulah, Mrs. J. C. Wilcox, Pasadena, Texas, Mrs. Charles Wilhite, Newellton; two brothers, Joe Matthews and H. A. Matthews, Houston, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Werthey, Ferriday; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Austin Bryant, Setton Bryant, Ross Murphy, D. McCarty, Lonnie McCarty and ???? ????.
