May 15, 1932  -  August 10, 2022

From Cox Funeral Home Delhi, LA August 12, 2022

Alcus O'Neal Maxwell, Sr. was born May 15, 1932, in Central Community, Delhi, Louisiana and left this earth in the arms of his dearly beloved wife, on August 10, 2022, in their home in Tallulah. Visitation will be 11:00am and funeral service at 12:00pm, Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Parkview Baptist Church, Tallulah, LA with Bro. Jason Lupo and Bro. David Maxwell (nephew) officiating. Interment will be at the Faith Memorial Park Cemetery south of Delhi under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi, LA.

Alcus was preceded in death by his parents, Kirby and Tressie Jones Maxwell, sisters: Mildred Deggans and Evelyn Maxwell; brothers J.L. Maxwell, Horace Maxwell, Alfred Maxwell, Sheldon Maxwell, and Terry Maxwell.

Alcus was a member of Parkview Baptist Church for the past 20 years, and a past member of First Baptist Church Tallulah for 40+ years. He loved his church families, singing in the choirs, serving as deacon, Sunday School teacher and especially serving his Lord. He is a 35 year retired rural letter carrier from the US Postal Services. He was co-owner of D & M Furniture Store in Tallulah for 17 years. He recently received his 60 year pin as a member of the Masonic Lodge #308. He was well known for his "famous baked beans" at their annual bar-b-ques. Alcus loved working in his yard up until becoming ill in recent months. In his younger years he always had a big garden and loved sharing the fruits of his labor. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He said it was a big milestone for his family as the only surviving sibling.

Alcus was a generous and loving husband, daddy, papaw, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed. He loved his wife dearly and they would have been married 70 years in December. He would give anyone the shirt off his back, and never thought twice about it. His legacy will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom he was so proud to brag about to anyone who would listen.

Alcus is survived by his wife, Maxine Antley Maxwell, Tallulah, daughters: Glenda Maxwell Cockrell (husband Mike) of Hot Springs, AR; Sandra Maxwell Laughman (husband Len) of Tallulah, LA; and son Neal Maxwell of Baton Rouge, LA; three grandchildren: Daphne Hosler, Brandon Laughman (Lauren); and Candace Cockrell Skaggs (Trey); Five Great-grandchildren, Sophie, Lilly, Camden, Eliza, and Ollie and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers are nephews Wayne Maxwell, Ricky Maxwell, Randy Maxwell, Steve Maxwell, Kenny Maxwell and Ken Hales.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of Masonic Lodge #308, Tallulah. The family would like to thank the staff of Delhi Hospital and Community Health, Legacy Nursing Home, Delhi Home Health, Madison Parish Sherriff's Dept., and Northeast LA Ambulance Services for the loving care shown to Alcus.
