Monsell - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Madison Journal July 14, 1933 ILL HEALTH CAUSES MONSELL TO KILL SELF WITH RIFLE Financial Worries Said By Family To Have Led To Farmer's Committing Suicide Ill health resulting from continual worry over his farm of several hundred acres being divided by levee changes south of Tallulah, was attributed by the family as having caused C. F. Monsell, 51-year-old farmer of Tensas parish, to shoot himself last Friday. The family said that several unsuccessful investments had added to his worry. Three days before he committed suicide he agreed to go to New York to seek relief. The next day he changed his mind. Mrs. Monsell sent for her two brothers. The three finally gained his consent to make the trip, the day before he shot himself. The brothers planned to leave on the morning the tragedy occurred. About 5 a. m., Friday, Mr. Monsell went into the yard and placed a .22 rifle barrel against the back of his head and pulled the trigger. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Saturday morning with interment in the Silver Cross cemetery. The Rev. W. H. Giles, Methodist pastor, officiated. The deceased is survived by his wife and several children.
