All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Harry Don "Gator" Morton Sr. - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal April 9, 1997 Funeral services for Mr. Harry Don "Gator" Morton Sr., 80 Of Tallulah, were held Saturday, April 5, 1997 in the First United Methodist Church in' Tallulah with Rev. Lillard Bevel officiating. Burial followed in Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah. Morton died Thursday, April 3, in the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Louisiana and had lived in Tallulah almost 50 years. He was a high school teacher and athletic coach. He built the first track in Northeast Louisiana. He attended French Camp Academy and graduated from Tallulah High School. He was a graduate of East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the campaigns of North Africa and Italy. He was a coach and teacher at Roxton and Canton, Texas; Tallulah High School and Tallulah Academy. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Frances Bledsoe Morton of Tallulah; one son, Harry Don Morton Jr., of Vicksburg, Miss.; one daughter, Judy Fortenberry of Tallulah; one brother, Arthur W. "Slick" Morton of Brandon, Miss.; one sister, Madge Kennon of Lafayette; four grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Shelby Paul Morton. Pallbearers were Finley Cartwright, Bill Ziegler, Wayne Noland, Ronald Hancock, Kenny Smith and Bill Gilfoil. Honorary pallbearers were the staff of St. Francis Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial to the Elevator Fund, First United Methodist Church, PO Box 88, Tallulah, or to a favorite charity.
