All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Dr. Shelby Morton - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, August 20, 1986 HOUSTON, Texas--A memorial for Dr. Shelby Morton, 38, was held at 7 p.m. Monday at Bering Memorial Methodist Church in Houston with the Rev. Ronald Pogue and Dr. Rev. Annette Jones officiating. Dr. Morton died Saturday in Houston, Texas. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University in 1970, a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was an outstanding graduate of Northeast Louisiana University in 1973 where he received his MBA degree. He received his Ph.D. in Management from the University of Arkansas in 1980. He taught at Northeast Louisiana University and Louisiana State University and the University of Houston, Clearlake and since 1979 he was assistant professor of Management at University of Houston at Clearlake. He was selected for the Minnie Piper Award for outstanding teacher in 1983. He was a member of the Society For Personnel Administrators and Management and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honorary (outstanding chapter in 1985). He was named senior professional of ASPA. He is the past secretary and current treasurer of Houston Personnel Association. Dr. Morton was a consultant to business and industry in the Houston area and had achieved national recognition in the area of Personnel Accreditation. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Don Morton of Tallulah; one brother, Don Morton of Vicksburg, Miss.; one sister, Judy Fortenberry, of Tallulah; two nieces and two nephews. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions can be made to Bering Memorial United Methodist Church, 1440 Harrold Street, Houston, Texas 77006 or to Dr. Shelby Morton Memorial Fund, Madison Bank.
