Newell - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Madison Journal August 21, 1920 R. D. NEWELL DIES Mr. R. D. Newell, a prominent citizen of Quebec, in this parish, died at his home at Quebec last Tuesday. Mr. Newell, who was a native of Tensas parish, and who was from one of the best families of that parish, has been a resident of Madison parish and Quebec for some years, being for a long time postmaster at Quebec, and operating the only store in that neighborhood. In later years, however, he sold out his interest in the store and has been engaged in farming operations. The remains were conveyed to Vicksburg Wednesday, and the funeral took place in that city that afternoon. The services were held at Fisher's funeral chapel and were conducted by Rev. J. C. Johns, rector of the church of the Holy Trinity. Mr. Newell is survived by his wife, who was Miss Effie Henderson, of Vicksburg, before her marriage to Mr. Newell, two daughters and one son, to whom the Journal extends heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement.
